Cinema in Piazza returns this summer to Magazzino Italian Art.

On the occasion of Upstate Art Weekend, we are delighted to present our annual outdoor film series, featuring a curated selection of films exploring music, memory, artistic expression, and historic heritage.

Across two weekends in June and August, audiences are invited to experience acclaimed works by Yvonne Russo, Ruggero Gabbai, and Giuseppe Tornatore. Each feature film will be preceded by a short documentary highlighting Magazzino’s recent exhibitions, creating a dialogue between cinema and contemporary Italian art.

Prior to the screenings you can enjoy an Italian Aperitivo served by Chef Luca in the garden (June 28 and August 15), or Pizza Truck (June 27 and August 16)

📍 Saturday, June 27 — Viva Verdi! (2024), directed by Yvonne Russo
📍 Sunday, June 28 — Liliana (2024), directed by Ruggero Gabbai
📍 Saturday, August 15 — Ennio: The Maestro (2021), directed by Giuseppe Tornatore
📍 Sunday, August 16 — The Legend of 1900 (1998), directed by Giuseppe Tornatore

Can you smell that? 🥐

That delicious aroma drifting through Café Silvia every morning is our fresh croissants baking in the oven.

Watch as they transform from pale layers of dough into golden, flaky pastries—crisp on the outside, soft and buttery on the inside. Freshly baked every day and best enjoyed warm, whether plain, with jam, or with a generous spread of chocolate.

Some mornings are worth slowing down for.

Discover a personal perspective on two of the most influential artists of the late twentieth century and the enduring legacy of their friendship.

Read the full transcript published in Il Giornale dell’Arte of the conversation between Francesco Clemente and Massimiliano Gioni during the Boetti Symposium organized by Magazzino Italian Art in collaboration with the Fondazione Alighiero e Boetti.

In this intimate and insightful exchange, Clemente reflects on his friendship with Alighiero Boetti, tracing the intersections of their artistic journeys and the transformative trips they shared to Afghanistan—experiences that profoundly shaped both their lives and artistic practices.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the latest lecture in our textile talks series: Thread of Abstraction. We were honored to host scholar Ginevra di Blasio for a fascinating comparative study of Italian and international textile artists, presented as part of a research project supported by the Italian Council.

An evening of thoughtful dialogue, deep research, and inspiring exchanges on the language of textiles across cultures and generations. We are grateful to all who attended and contributed to such an engaging conversation.

Named after the Indian midnight raga Jog and the American blues tradition, Jög Blue invites audiences on a communal journey through music, celebrating the joys, struggles, and liberation of the human experience under the summer sky.

Nancy Olnick and Giorgio Spanu, co-founders of Magazzino, mourn the passing of Remo Salvadori with deep sorrow and gratitude for a friendship that spanned decades.

To have known such an intelligent and deeply spiritual artist was a true privilege. From long walks in the forest filled with meaningful conversations, to witnessing the quiet power of his installations and the brilliance of his mind at work, Remo’s presence was a constant source of inspiration.

Beyond his extraordinary artistic legacy, he will be remembered for his humanity, sensitivity, and profound way of seeing the world.

His passing leaves an immense void, but also immense gratitude for the years of friendship, dialogue, and shared moments that will remain with us always. Our thoughts are with his family, loved ones, and all those touched by his life and work.

Alighiero Boetti’s Autoritratto (1993) is more than a self-portrait — it’s a portrait of the artist’s mind at work.

Water continuously cascades over the bronze figure while steam rises from his head, as if the artist’s thoughts are so intense they require constant cooling. Created just one year before Boetti’s death, the work feels hauntingly prophetic: a body consumed from within by creativity.

Throughout his career, Boetti often removed himself from the making of his art, collaborating with Afghan and Pakistani artisans on his iconic embroidered works and appearing in his own works only as fragments, doubles, or traces. In Autoritratto, he finally places himself at the center — vulnerable, exposed, and burning with thought.

Now on view at as part of Tutto Boetti. The sculpture is activated for 30 minutes at 12pm and 3pm.
