In honor of Pride Month, we're spotlighting scientists whose work is helping us see the universe in new ways: Meet Dr. Nergis Mavalvala!

Dr. Mavalvala is a MacArthur Fellow and renowned astrophysicist who played an instrumental role in the LIGO project, which made the first direct detection of gravitational waves from two colliding black holes. This groundbreaking discovery opened an entirely new way of observing the universe. 🌌✨ Today, she serves as the Dean of MIT's School of Science and is a passionate advocate for LGBTQ+ visibility, equity, and inclusion in STEM.

Innovation thrives when more people have a seat at the table. 👏 When scientists from different backgrounds and experiences can contribute, new ideas and discoveries become possible. Science is for everyone!

Some cryptids leave footprints. These ones left chalk dust. 👣 🎨 🖼️

During this year's COSI Science Festival, local artists created incredible chalk artwork inspired by legends of the Midwest and beyond. Artists worked live, so festival guests could watch each creature take shape in real time, from first outline to finished masterpiece.

Now, those artworks have a new home inside COSI! Find them on display alongside our current traveling exhibit from AMNH, Mythic Creatures. Together, the exhibition and artwork explore the stories we tell about the unknown, and the creatures that continue to capture our imaginations.

In honor of Pride Month, we're highlighting scientists whose impact extends beyond the lab: Meet Dr. Fred Chang! 🌈💫

Dr. Chang is a cell biologist who studies how cells grow, divide, and even sense their own shape. Using tiny yeast cells, his research has helped uncover some of the basic rules that guide life itself. 🔬✨ Today, he leads an interdisciplinary research lab at UCSF and was named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science for both his scientific achievements and his advocacy for LGBTQ+ and other underrepresented communities in STEM.

Everyone deserves to see a place for themselves in science. 👏 When more perspectives are represented, innovation thrives. 🏳️‍🌈 Thank you, Dr. Chang, for helping inspire the next generation of scientists and researchers!

In honor of Pride Month, we're spotlighting scientists who are helping shape a more inclusive future for STEAM: Meet Dr. Bretton Carter!

Dr. Carter is an ichnologist and paleontologist who studies trace fossils like dinosaur footprints. As part of the team that identified the first dinosaur tracks on mainland Scotland, his work has helped uncover new pieces of Earth's story. 🌎 👣 Beyond the field, Dr. Carter has worked to expand paleontology education and is a passionate advocate for making Earth science more welcoming & inclusive for future generations!

Representation matters. 👏 When more people can see themselves in science, more discoveries become possible. Science is for everyone! 🌈 💫 Thank you, Dr. Carter, for helping create a STEM community where curiosity and belonging can go hand in hand!
