OSU Triplehorn Insect Collection Welcome to our page! The C.A. The Triplehorn Insect Collection at Ohio State University is one of the largest university collections in the USA.

Triplehorn Insect Collection at The Ohio State University is dedicated to the study, documentation, and conservation of insects and committed to the promotion of the science of Entomology. Our specimens are used in studies of insect systematics, evolution, faunistics, crop and animal protection, and invasive insect species. In 2005 the collection was dedicated in honor of Dr. Charles A. Triplehorn, Professor of Entomology and long-time Curator.

Did you know?! OSU’s Triplehorn Insect Collection is over 90 yrs old & holds ~4 million dry insect specimens. Tours of the collection are available during our regular work hours. Visits must be scheduled in advance. Contact us to book your tour!! Link in bio.

Making the best out of the Spotted lanternfly (SLF) invasion. Specimens collected by us in our area in the summer 2025 & 2026 are being used in educational activities for staff, students, interns, volunteers, and the public at large.

We held a mini insect mounting workshop and built educational displays and hands-on activities to inform the community about the species.

We’re frequently sharing our experiences with the species on social media.
