PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

It has come to our attention that Cumberland has some new art enthusiasts in town.

To our friends and neighbors, a few friendly reminders:

🐎 If you see wild horses quietly contemplating museum-quality fine art at Ferleman Gallery — please do not disturb them. They have exceptional taste and we will not apologize for that.
🐎 If you see wild horses stomping their hooves to at Gallery Stage — that is called dancing and it is encouraged. Do not stop them.
🐎 If you see wild horses seated at RootsTable savoring an fine dining experience — please, for the love of all that is good, let them finish their meal. These mountains are their home too. They know what grows here. They respect the table.

We welcome all visitors — two-legged, four-legged, and everything in between.

It's the summer of liminal spaces! What better destination than the Ferleman Gallery to top off your visual adventure?

Walking a fine line, our current exhibition artist, Allan Gorman, blends his paintings into a surreal viewing experience. Ask yourself, what happens when a highly-praised advertising creative director blends his experience with painting?

Through Gorman’s talent and passion, beauty in the in-between flourishes.

Gorman uses his masterful skills in visual storytelling to produce artwork that praises the details in the unseen. He often takes overlooked places and brings their potential to life, mixing realism and abstraction to represent these transitional thresholds while exploring unassuming places between the origin and the destination.

Gorman is also able to bring his talent into representing conceptual spaces in a way that makes you feel something rather than perceiving them in a literal sense. The more you stare, the more his straight lines and depth of contrast create places that move you toward a feeling of nostalgia and slight eeriness. Being able to find and represent inspiration in liminal and industrial forms is no easy task, but Gorman makes it look effortless.

Allan Gorman’s exhibit, The Secrets that Structure Holds, is currently on display. Come experience art that breaks boundaries at 9 N Centre Street, Cumberland, Maryland.

Something special is taking shape inside the Ferleman Gallery.

Today’s Saturday Samples at RootsTable offered another glimpse into the larger vision: handmade savory hand pies, prepared with fresh ingredients and served among contemporary art, creative conversation, and the energy of a working cultural space.

Guests sampled two versions:
• Wayne’s Country Fresh Meat pie with caramelized onions and blue cheese dressing
• Granny Smith apple, brie cheese, and cherry balsamic dressing

What’s emerging at the gallery is more than separate experiences living under one roof. It’s a place where exhibitions, live performances, and thoughtfully prepared food intersect naturally. An evening might begin with dinner at RootsTable, continue with a concert at Gallery Stage, and unfold surrounded by rotating exhibitions throughout the gallery.

Art, music, and hospitality — all designed to be experienced together.

There’s something compelling about hearing an artist explain not just what they create—but why they create it.

Dr. Ferleman recently sat down with acclaimed abstract painter Allan Gorman for a conversation about structure, process, inspiration, and the ideas behind his work currently on view at Ferleman Gallery. Allan’s paintings explore industrial forms, architecture, memory, and abstraction in a way that feels both deeply personal and universally recognizable.

This interview offers a closer look into the mind of an artist whose work continues to resonate with collectors and audiences across the country.

Watch the interview and step deeper into the world behind the paintings.

Missed Saturday Sample? Here’s a taste of what went down at RootsTable at the Ferleman Gallery 🌮 House-made masa tortillas, tacos two ways—Lion’s Mane mushrooms and slow-cooked beef shank—all locally sourced and topped with our signature slaw and five bold, scratch-made sauces. It was a great afternoon of food, flavor, and community—keep an eye out, we’ll be doing it again next Saturday.
