Join us on Saturday, May 16th for an evening celebrating creativity, connection, and the beauty of the natural world at the C. William Gilchrist Gallery & Museum.

We’re excited to host the opening reception for artists Casey Beal and James Barefoot, whose work invites viewers into intricate, imaginative interpretations of nature.

From delicately detailed studies of insects, plants, and wildlife to sculptural forms built from reclaimed and mechanical materials, this exhibition explores themes of transformation, observation, and the hidden wonder within the natural world.

James Barefoot’s assemblage sculptures re-imagine insect forms through watch parts and found objects, creating pieces that feel both scientific and mythic. Casey Beal’s work blends biology and storytelling through layered media, highlighting the beauty and complexity of Appalachian flora and fauna.

Before the reception, we encourage you to spend the day downtown at the Cumberland Living Arts Festival, a vibrant, community-centered celebration featuring local artists, performers, and creatives across a wide range of disciplines, along with free activities and entertainment.
Make a day of it and experience the energy of the festival, then join us in the evening to slow down, connect, and take in this thoughtful and inspiring exhibition.
