Everything is bigger in Texas — and that includes a new T. rex species in the Texas fossil record! 🤠

The holotype, or name-bearing fossil specimen, was first discovered along Lake Ray Hubbard in 1979 and is about the length of a school bus.

And the best part? It's now on view at Perot Museum! 👀 Stop by and learn about these aggressive, ancient marine predators on your next visit to the T. Boone Pickens Life Then and Now Hall.

The claws are out! 🦖

Literally — this is a narrow, curved claw from the fingertip of a small theropod dinosaur, according to Dr. Ron Tykoski, vice president of science & curator of vertebrate paleontology at Perot Museum.

It was found in a nearly 100 million year old rock close to the DFW airport in Grapevine!

“In life, it probably made an effective meat-hook for grasping and holding prey,” Tykoski said.
