The Warehouse is a project initiated by Howard Rachofsky and Vernon Faulconer to make their collections available to curators, scholars, critics and students, and to open new dialogues about postwar Modern and contemporary art. At the heart of the project is an adapted industrial building on 14105 Inwood Road in Dallas, containing art storage facilities, an extensive library, and 18,000 square feet of flexible exhibition space. Here, The Warehouse presents carefully considered, original exhibitions of works from the Rachofsky and Faulconer collections, complemented by art acquired jointly with the Dallas Museum of Art and works on loan from other significant institutions and private collections. These changing exhibitions are developed specifically to suggest new perspectives on art and invite fresh questions that expand accepted notions of history. Devoted to education, The Warehouse offers special programs and public days; hosts visiting artists and art professionals; and publishes important new scholarship.

In Peter Fischli and David Weiss’ 𝘙𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘉𝘦𝘢𝘳 (𝘚𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨) (2008), animal figures act as stand-ins for the artists, strange alter egos that bring together humor and unease. Animated by breathing machines, they seem quietly alive, suspended between installation and live performance.

The work is currently on view in 𝘐𝘯 𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘐𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘦: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘭𝘦 𝘉𝘰𝘥𝘺 𝘪𝘯 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘈𝘳𝘵, curated by Simone Krug (Simone Krug), through January 30, 2027.

Get creative this Halloween season at The Warehouse!

Join us Thursday, October 29, from 6–8:30 PM for 𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘨𝘶𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘴, an evening of art-making and exploration inspired by 𝘐𝘯 𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘐𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘦: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘭𝘦 𝘉𝘰𝘥𝘺 𝘪𝘯 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘈𝘳𝘵.

Led by artist and educator Colleen Colette, we will explore how artists can create narratives with costumes, performance, and a sense of play. We will look closely at artworks in the gallery, sketch, and create a soft sculpture.

Registration is $30. Participants will design and create their own sculpture. All materials will be provided, as will Halloween-inspired light bites and drinks. You must be 21+ years to register. We hope you can join us!

Yukinori Yanagi (Yanagi Yukinori) takes on Japan’s colonial past and patriotism in 𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘮𝘦 / 𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘮𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵 (1997) which features a chrysanthemum—the Japanese imperial seal—at the center of a bright red wool carpet surrounded by brass petals dispersed across the surface. Each petal accompanies the words “Loves me” or “Loves me not” (or “hate”) —invoking the lover’s game—in multiple languages of countries or ethnic communities that the Empire of Japan invaded, annexed, or occupied from 1940 to 1945. These languages include Ainu, Burmese, Chinese, Khmer, Korean, Okinawan, Malay, Tagalog, Tamil, and Thai.

In Jacqueline de Jong’s 𝘖𝘧𝘧 𝘚𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘰𝘯 (1986), exaggerated faces, outstretched limbs, and animal forms crowd together against a vivid landscape. Bodies overlap and features twist, creating a scene that feels both playful and unsettling.

Throughout her career, de Jong brought humor, eroticism, and violence into paintings populated by distorted bodies and monstrous figures. Drawing on popular culture, cinema, and illustration, she moved freely between styles, exploring the possibilities of the figure through deformation and transformation.

Our fall exhibitions are now on view at The Warehouse!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for opening weekend. On Friday evening, curator Simone Krug (Simone Krug) led a special preview tour of 𝘐𝘯 𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘐𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘦: 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘭𝘦 𝘉𝘰𝘥𝘺 𝘪𝘯 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘈𝘳𝘵, introducing works by more than seventy-five artists that explore the body’s vulnerabilities, contradictions, and possibilities.

Saturday brought a day of shared conversations through 𝘋𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘋𝘪𝘷𝘦: 𝘑𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘗𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘸𝘢𝘳 𝘈𝘳𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐𝘵𝘴 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘐𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘵, presented with the Nasher Sculpture Center (Nasher Sculpture Center). Following Mika Yosh*take’s (Mika Yosh*take) lecture on Mono-ha at the Nasher and lunch at The Warehouse, artist Yukinori Yanagi (Yanagi Yukinori) joined Yosh*take for a conversation and tour of WAREHOUSE 01: 𝘠𝘶𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘪 𝘠𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘪.

It was a pleasure to welcome new and familiar faces into the galleries and begin the season together. Both exhibitions are on view through January 30, 2027.

Opening this week at The Warehouse: WAREHOUSE 01: 𝘠𝘶𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘪 𝘠𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘪.

For decades, Yanagi (Yanagi Yukinori) has examined the borders, histories, and national myths that shape ideas of identity and belonging. In his ant farms, living colonies alter flags made from colored sand. His earthworks bring soil from contested sites into new relationships, while other works revisit the imagery of Japan’s wartime past. Together, they ask how a nation’s symbols acquire their authority, and what they might leave out.

Curated by Mika Yosh*take (Mika Yosh*take), the exhibition opens Saturday, September 26. The Warehouse is open Saturdays from 12 PM to 5 PM. Admission is free.

Join us on Saturday, September 26, for 𝘋𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘋𝘪𝘷𝘦: 𝘑𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘗𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘸𝘢𝘳 𝘈𝘳𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐𝘵𝘴 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘐𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘵, a day of special programming presented by The Warehouse in collaboration with the Nasher Sculpture Center (Nasher Sculpture Center).

At 11:30 AM, curator Mika Yosh*take (Mika Yosh*take) will present a lecture at the Nasher exploring how the Mono-ha movement has shaped understandings of postwar Japanese art, both within Japan and internationally.

Following the lecture, guests are invited to lunch at The Warehouse at 1 PM. Space is limited to 40 guests; RSVP to [email protected].
