📆 Mark your calendars! 📆

🏛 Next Saturday, June 27, we will be hosting a joint reception for our new exhibits Arts in Action: "The Power of Place" and America 250: "Barb City in Red, White, & Blue." This reception will be held from 4pm-6pm at the Ellwood House Museum Visitor Center, and the everyone is welcome to attend.

📸 Arts in Action: “The Power of Place,” is a photography exhibit featuring works by Jayla Trenyce. The exhibit explores how physical locations hold deep meaning, carrying traces of historical events and family memories. Trenyce’s works focus on DeKalb’s Pleasant Street and Sycamore’s North Avenue neighborhoods, which she documents through a series of ten photographs. Jayla Trenyce is a Chicago-based graduate of Northern Illinois University, and founder of Kindred Noir, an organization which seeks to empower and support Black and underserved artists. Arts in Action is funded by a grant from Healing Illinois. Healing Illinois is funded by the Illinois Department of Human Services in partnership with The Field Foundation of Illinois.

🏛 "Barb City in Red, White, & Blue" explores the continued celebration of American history through artifacts from the museum’s collection. DeKalb residents have commemorated milestones of American history through the preservation of family artifacts, involvement with civic organizations, the performance of patriotic music, and the creation of folk handicrafts and costumes.

🎉 We hope to see everyone there!
