View #2 of the Dover Hotel. Most likely built between 1851-1853, and aside from its stint during the Civil War, would serve as a hotel until 1925. Know as the Dover Hotel, Commercial Hotel, and the Hobing Hotel (at the time of this image), named after its final owners Mr & Mrs John Hobing.

Photo of The Dover Hotel taken in 1898. Notice the ladies standing near the front of the building. This photo was used in the National Park Services movie shown at the “Surrender House”.
It’s the only building that survives on its original foundation and construction that witnessed the surrender of an entire army during the Civil War and the only building standing in Dover that saw all four years of the war.
