The International Museum of Art, a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization, is located in the heart of El Paso’s historic Rio Grande District. The building, a Victorian style mansion designed by architect Henry C. Trost, was owned by State Senator William Turney and his wife Iva, a prominent El Paso family who resided in the home from 1909 to 1939. Following Senator Turney’s death, Mrs. Turney donated

the property to the City of El Paso. Honoring the wishes of the Senator and Mrs. Turney – that their former home always be used for the arts- the Turney mansion became the home of the International Museum of Art.

Second Annual SRTA First Responder Art Exhibit Returns to El Paso

Stress Relief Through Arts (SRTA) will present its Second Annual First Responder Art Exhibit, The Weight We Carry, September 12 through October 4, 2026, at the International Museum of Art.

An opening reception will be held Saturday, September 19, from 2–4 p.m.

The annual exhibit brings together artwork created by current and retired first responders and their immediate family members, offering the community an opportunity to experience another side of those who serve—not through
uniforms or titles, but through what they create.

This year’s exhibit takes its name from the featured five-piece series, The Weight We Carry, created by retired first responder and SRTA founder Joanna Overton. The series depicts stages of responder stress and emphasizes the importance of caring for oneself as intentionally as one cares for others. The series is part of the El Paso Fire Department Wellness Center collection and will be on loan for the exhibition.

Through a variety of artists, experiences and creative styles, the exhibit reflects SRTA’s mission to encourage creativity as an accessible, non-clinical approach to stress relief, reflection and connection.

Exhibit: September 12 – October 4, 2026

Opening Reception: September 19, 2026 | 2–4 PM

The exhibit and opening reception are open to the community.

About SRTA

Call or text with questions Ron Fritsch at 915-241-1734
(leave message if I do not answer)

Course Description:
Ron will continue working with students who wish to work on portraits. It is easier doing these projects one-on-one. Bring a photocopy of the person you wish to paint and I will coach you individually.

The same goes if you have a personal photo you want to work from and develop your own composition. Again we can work individually with these subjects as well.

I will have images to work from and will gladly entertain that. If you bring your own images please bring two copies. I know that EPAA would be happy to make prints for us. You will need to provide the images as soon as possible to me and I will get them done as a group from EPAA.

NEW STUDENTS: If we have someone new to the medium of their choice I will work with them by doing the same image. I prefer landscapes because it gives us a common image to work from and grow your talent. I will supply the image for the landscape painting for those wanting to work along with me. I will work one-on-one with both the beginner and the advanced students in watercolor, acrylic or oils. Painting is fun and very rewarding.

We will learn the principles of drawing, composition and color, light and shadows (color value), brushwork, movement and texture, study key points of interest, depth and perspective plus subject interest and explore key takeaways.

This class is also for the individuals that just needs an excuse to find time to paint.

Register/payment with Karla Zanelli at 915-534-7377 or

NOTE : Please call Karla for the materials list for each class.

Thanks to all of you. Our classes have been very rewarding for both the students and I. Lots of wonderful work has come out of this program.
