Come explore history! Visit the Cottage and Schoolhouse! Step back in time and explore Estero’s charming One-Room Schoolhouse and Historic Cottage Museum, open Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

📚 Read about it! Did you know there are several books on Estero’s history? Stop by the gift shop (open Saturdays, 10 AM – 2 PM) to pick one up—thanks to our amazing volunteers!

🎤 Attend events like our Speaker Series and cozy Conversations at the Cottage to learn even more.

Mammoths, mastodons, giant ground sloths, and saber-toothed cats lived in Florida, including what is now Estero, during the Pleistocene epoch, which was approximately 2.5 million to 10,000 years ago.

If the Estero Historical Society has inspired you, taught you something new, or helped preserve the stories that make our community special, we would be honored to have your nomination. ❤️

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Estero Historical Society relies on volunteers, memberships, and donations to continue preserving and sharing the rich history of the greater Estero area. From educational programs to major preservation efforts like the relocation and restoration of the historic Alvarez/Smith Home, every project is made possible through community support.

Besides presenting to adults, Cheryl is looking forward to sharing all the interesting facets of Florida’s history with local school children and families. As a former teacher, her skills in sharing our history with our youth is greatly appreciated by the Estero Historical Society! Thank you, Cheryl, for donating your time and expertise.
