Excited is an understatement! 🎨✨

One of our favorite times of the year is preparing for the Annual Area Youth Art Exhibition. A huge thank you to students Autumn Holman, Naomi Robison, and Mayson Jenkins for lending a hand, alongside our amazing LCVA team members Emily, Alex, and Mack.

We can't wait to celebrate the incredible creativity and talent of students from across our region.

Join us for the exhibition opening reception on Sunday, June 7, from 2–4 PM and help us recognize these talented young artists!

Some books do not simply tell stories.

They become part of childhood itself.

The Virginia Children’s Book Festival is overjoyed to announce that Philip and Erin Stead are coming to the 2026 VCBF.

From the Caldecott Medal-winning "A Sick Day for Amos McGee" to "The Purloining of Prince Oleomargarine" and Erin Stead’s stunning illustrations for the 100th anniversary edition of "The Velveteen Rabbit," the Steads have created stories filled with whimsy, warmth, wonder, and heart.

Now, children across Virginia will have the chance to meet them.

But bringing world-class authors and illustrators to our region only happens because of donors who believe every child deserves access to beautiful books, unforgettable experiences, and the magic of storytelling.

If you would like to help us welcome Philip and Erin Stead to the 2026 Virginia Children’s Book Festival, we would be so grateful for your support.

Help us put wonder into children’s hands.

Chemistry 351 students, Lina Mohamedhaj and Quinn Kukk, present their findings at the Spring 2026 Student Showcase for Research and Creative Inquiry after a visit to LCVA’s collection where they scanned various objects to determine their elemental composition using a handheld XRF machine.

This non-destructive technique allowed them to confirm the material in the object matched LCVA’s records and opens up further research opportunities. Their posters and scanned objects will be on display at the upcoming Point of Departure exhibition from May 1st through May 13th.

The LCVA had such a fun time at Prince Edward County Elementary’s PTO Spring Fling this past Saturday! 🌸

We partnered with Jill from the Robert Russa Moton Museum to create our “mega museum tent,” where students could get creative designing and making their own spring-themed buttons. It was a joy to see so many young artists bringing their ideas to life!

A big thank you to Wells-Bishop Intern Kadyn Bunting ’26 for helping lead the activity, and to Delaney Rever ’26 and Kelsey Madden ’26 for their support with prep and design. Delaney and Kelsey, both work-study students in the LCVA’s Education Department, played a key role in making the day a success! 🎨
