Whippoorwill Academy and Village We are open every 3rd Saturday from 1-5:00- April -October.

Whippoorwill Academy and Village is a place to learn about local history, to enjoy the arts as well this beautiful setting with the Appalachian mountains in the distance. Family Farm features historical museums, including: Tom Dooley Museum, Daniel Boone Replica Cabin, Smokehouse Art Gallery, Matt's Store,Jail, School House, Chapel, Tavern, Blacksmith shop, Weaving room and more.

Today Whippoorwill Academy and Village's board member, Tim Larsen demonstrated his talents at painting, birds, landscapes and whatever else he darned well pleases at Cedar Rock Country Club for Lenoir's Brush and Palette Club! Tim is an active member of the board and one that we call our "village painter". When we have events, you can find Tim demonstrating his talents.

June 7th is designated in our nation as Daniel Boone Day. Daniel Boone had three different homes in the Ferguson area for 20 years. He was a neighbor of the Ferguson brothers who had arrived from Scotland 4 years earlier. North Carolina's first licensed dentist, Dr. William Spainhour who lived in Lenoir during the 1800's came to Ferguson to take measurements of the Boone cabin. Those measurements were used to recreate the Boone cabin that can now be seen at Whippoorwill Academy and Village. A local farmer wanted to clear his property and offered the late Edith Carter the stones from Daniel Boone's cabin. The chimney and fireplace are built with those stones. You can learn more about Daniel Boone and other local history at Whippoorwill Academy and Village- 11928 hwy. 268 W., Ferguson, NC every 3rd Satruday of the month from 1-5:00 p.m. for a tour. Admission is $10.00 per person. Whippoorwill Academy and Village is a 501-C-3 non-profit that celebrates local history, the arts and agriculture.

Yesterday at the fundraising event to celebrate and help Rev. Steve Mathews at Whippoorwill Academy and Village, we declared it a time for a "Pandemic of Kindness". The volunteers, musicians and donors (many who traveled as far away as New Hampshire and Tallahassee, Florida) were certainly showing kindness and compassion. The day was a huge success. If you won a raffle or a silent auction, you will be called this week. Thank you to everyone who helped us with this event. The late Edith Carter (founder of Whippoorwill Academy and Village) would be so pleased to see that the first use of her barn was used for something so important as helping someone else.
