Students in Mary Ringenberg’s monthly art class explored the bold, energetic pop art of artist Keith Haring, whose work was inspired by New York City’s 1980s graffiti culture. Using his signature style as inspiration, the young artists created their own colorful, action-filled figures that are truly out of this world!

Get to know our artists!!

Joe Matulka paints to memorialize the past. Growing up on a farm, he was surrounded by nature and the seasonal turns on the farm. You’ll see plenty of agrarian landscapes and farm implements in his work! He has always had an interest in creating, taking classes at school and workshops at The Joslyn. Joe paints in acrylic, enjoying the immediacy of the medium and finding it easy to stop and step away when he chooses.
