Douglass-Clark House The Douglass-Clark House is a visitor and interpretive center. Our parking lot is located at the trailhead of the Station Camp Creek Greenway.

A single room inside the house served as one of the earliest Sumner County Courthouse from 1788-1790. The Douglass-Clark House, restored by Sumner County, is a visitors and interpretive center. This beautiful Daylily is blooming on the edge of the greenway. Native to Asia, daylilies have naturalized throughout North America. Immigrants from Europe brought the first daylilies to the area. I wonder if Emma had some in her garden?

We found this beautiful Eastern Kingsnake (Lampropeltis getula) this morning. They are a great snake to find because they've been documented eating venomous snakes in addition to their normal diet of rodents. We wonder which of Emma's children was most likely to bring home a snake?

Happy Mother's Day!!!
While Mother's Day did not become a national holiday until 1914, we want to recognize Emma Douglass Clark on this special day. Emma became a mother in 1832 when her first daughter Jane was born. Over the next 15 years, she had 9 more children. After her husband unexpectedly passed away in 1847, she raised them all by herself. During the Civil War, she lost 4 children and a grandchild, 3 sons to war, and her daughter Malissa to childbirth. She also made sure her son William, who was deaf, received whatever support he needed throughout his life. Happy Mother's Day, Emma!

You never know what you'll find by just looking. We spotted 2 baby Great Horned Owls while walking the greenway yesterday! Keep an eye out for them as you walk.
While we were super excited to see them, Emma might not have shared our feelings, Great Horned Owls enjoy eating chickens.
