When Seneca Ray Stoddard visited West Point in the 1880s, he captured this fascinating scene of a guard mounting.

Conversations with the Past returns this September!

Join us on Wednesday, September 16 at 7 p.m. for “Charles Evans Hughes: Leadership at America’s Crossroads,” presented by author Bill Loughrey.

Charles Evans Hughes was one of the most influential, and often overlooked, figures in American history. As Governor of New York, Supreme Court Justice, Chief Justice, and national leader, Hughes fought corruption, championed civil rights, modernized government, reformed industry, and helped shape the United States during the 20th century.

In this talk, Bill will share insights from his new book, "Charles Evans Hughes: Leadership at America’s Crossroads", with a special focus on Hughes’ connections to Glens Falls and the surrounding region.

Looking for some local history to explore from home? Check out this recording of a lecture from last fall by Dr. Hadley Kruczek-Aaron of SUNY Potsdam.

Dr. Kruczek-Aaron shares an update on the Timbuctoo Archaeology Project, which is documenting archaeological sites connected to a 19th-century African American farming community in the Adirondacks.

In her presentation, she explores the stories and experiences of the families who came to Timbuctoo and the people who supported them. She also discusses the discoveries made during the most recent field season, what researchers have learned, and the questions that remain.
