Glenview History Center Welcome to the Glenview History Center's page! The Farmhouse museum is open Sunday afternoons from 1:00-4:00 in the summer or by appointment.

The Glenview History Center is a not-for-profit volunteer organization that preserves the cultural heritage of Glenview and its people. The Center maintains two facilities: the 1864 Farmhouse Museum and the modern Hibbard Library, a replica of the Victorian coach house. The museum displays furniture, clothing, pictures, and other memorabilia from the Civil War period to World War II. Please call 8

This year we’re ordering up some “Memories on the Menu” for Throwback Thursday. Do you remember Villa del Mar? John Adinamis built the Spanish-style restaurant and bar in 1928 at the northeast corner of Lake Avenue and Waukegan Road -- when Glenview's population was 640. It was leased out as Renaldo's Piano Lounge in 1942, only to burn down in 1951. The Glen Oak Plaza shopping center is there today.

We're proud to have had a hand in preserving this Coast Guard helicopter that, thanks to the Hangar One Foundation, came back to Glenview and stayed a part of Naval Air Station Glenview's history.

This year we’re ordering up some “Memories on the Menu” for Throwback Thursday. Do you remember Frank Engels' Restaurant? Opened as a tavern in the 1920s at 1514 East Lake Avenue, it became known for its steak, frog leg and lobster tail dinners. Frank's wife, Elizabeth, was sister to Bebe Hackney, who started a restaurant out of her home on Harms Road. When Bebe and Jack Hackney passed away within a year of each other, the property passed on to Elizabeth, who sold it to her eldest son, Jim Masterson, for a buck.
In 1955, Masterson then purchased Engels Restaurant from his parents. This became what we know today as Hackney’s second location, Hackney’s on Lake.

This year we’re ordering up some “Memories on the Menu” for Throwback Thursday. Do you remember TGI Friday's? It sported the chain's red-and-white striped awnings and Gay Nineties interior when it opened in the early 1980s at 4513 West Lake Avenue. Jason Ochoa was a 2008 finalist in the chain's bartender contest (photo). After the chain was sold, the Glenview restaurant closed its doors in 2015, and today is a Korean steakhouse.

This year we’re ordering up some “Memories on the Menu” for Throwback Thursday. Do you remember Cliff's Pizza? It moved into the space at 1336 Waukegan Road, where Wisconsin Farms had been, around 1970. After 1973 it became Greek's Pizza and in 1983, The Pizza Bakery took over and later changed the name to Goode & Fresh Pizza Bakery.
