LaFontsee Galleries Contemporary art gallery, trusted art consulting for individual and designers, and custom framing since 1987. Based in Michigan.

Building on the strength of a solid partnership, Scott and Linda LaFontsee founded the Underground Studio in 1987. Over the years, they established themselves as forerunners of the emerging art culture in West Michigan, expanding their vision in 1994 by developing LaFontsee Galleries. In 2011, LaFontsee Galleries relocated to a larger space in the East Hills gallery district. With a welcoming, open environment, the gallery is devoted to personal service and fine regional and national art with a soul.

Toni Swarthout builds her acrylic paintings through layered washes and thin, insistent line work, letting color pool and run until structure emerges from it. "Off the Grid" holds soft greens and blues against bright passages of yellow, with a delicate grid of marks floating across the surface.

"Off the Grid"
Acrylic on Canvas
48" H x 48" W x 1.5"

Available at our Grand Rapids location. Also available for online purchase - we ship around the world!

The late Eric Boyer gave wire mesh a human presence, shaping its fine grid into a twisting figure that feels both solid and transparent. "Helix" turns the body into a study of movement, its open structure casting a second figure in shadow and making light part of the sculpture itself.

A collection of race medals, each one marking a finish line, a challenge, and the miles it took to get there.

When a client brought us this collection, we built a long shadowbox with a black frame and black interior so the ribbons could be seen as clearly as the medals themselves. Each one is mounted separately, spaced evenly across the width, turning years of races into a single piece.

Custom framing can preserve more than an object. It can give a memory a place to live.

Every mile. Every finish line. One frame.

Judy Munro works in oils with a loose, generous hand, letting light and color do the structural work. "Walking Path 60-26" leads the eye down a wooded trail through a canopy of green and autumn gold, the path itself scattered with shadow and the pale, luminous ground beneath the trees.

Jennifer McCurdy is a porcelain artist whose translucent vessels appear to move, carved into rippling ribbons that hold light and shadow in equal measure. "Sunrise Vessel" rises in spiraling folds that read as both architecture and motion, delicate enough to seem caught mid-breath.

Eric Wieringa paints familiar natural forms with a quiet, attentive eye. In "Kindred," two birch branches rest against a soft grey field, their pale bark, broken ends and small emerging limbs carrying the feeling of kinship the title suggests.

Joanne Rebek builds ceramic forms with a painter's eye, layering surface and mark until the clay reads like something weathered and found. "Eclipse- SW-blue, yellow, rust" holds a pale blue field inscribed with stepped geometric patterns in gold, rust and ochre, with a clean circular aperture near the top. An object that feels at once ancient and entirely current.

Mary Sebastian works in fiberglass to trace movement in still form. "Curiosity" lifts a single white ribbon into three looping, open curves, its surface catching light along every turn so the sculpture seems to shift as you move around it.
