IT'S SUMMER READING KICKOFF DAY!!!
Join us at 10:30am this morning for the kickoff of Summer Reading at the library. There will be a show by Mad Science, followed by
a very special appearance by the High Point Rockers mascot, HYPE ,then some fun, games, balloons, & more!
Be sure to pick up your summer reading logs & your first silicone bracelet & charm!

Woohoo - Summer Reading starts THIS THURSDAY!!!
Each time you (kids & teens) complete & turn in a weekly reading log this summer, you'll get a visit to the PRIZE CABINET - which was set up this weekend & looks AMAZING!! Come on by & check it out :-)
And please know that we have not forgotten about our adult readers! For each book you read/listen to, you can fill out an entry form which will get you entered into a weekly prize drawing. We've got some awesome prizes lined up for that as well - check back soon for more details!

Happy Monday!!
Thanks to those who came out this past Saturday & helped give the library’s first butterfly of the season a wonderful release into this world!

Our remaining chrysalises have had some excitement this past week but ultimately seem to be doing well. Two fell from where they had made their silk pads!

We looked up what to do when this happens & ended up placing these guys horizontally on a paper towel at the bottom of their Chrysalis Castle, right up against the mesh wall so that when they emerge, they can safely climb the mesh to hang and dry their wings. We’re hoping for the best!! Stay tuned to see how it all unfolds😊!

Today was a special day at the library, this year's first butterfly emerged & he is all sorts of amazing!!!😆
The pictures show him in the morning (around 10am), then again around 1pm (you can really start to see the orange wings showing through), and about an hour later a beautiful butterfly had joined us!
We plan to release him tomorrow after Storytime (which is at 10:30am) - hope that you can join us!!

Annnnd it's an especially good Saturday to join us at the library because it's the final weekend of June's Choice Book Sale!! Lots of awesome books, puzzles, & more to stock up on for the hot days ahead!!

A quick JPL Butterfly Update for you….
In our Children’s Room, the Chrysalis Chronicles continue – we have 2 beautiful chrysalises attached at the top of their Caterpillar Castle. They are jade-green & adorned with the signature band of metallic-like golden dots and black accents – gorgeous!

A quick search showed that this stage lasts ~8-15 days, depending on factors such temperature. When the butterfly is ready to emerge, the green chrysalis will turn transparent, allowing the orange and black wings to become clearly visible.

Our friends in the YA room arrived about a week after the ones in the children’s room & our big crew of 4 is split, with 2 having transitioned to the chrysalis stage & 2 still happily munching away on what leaves remain. Adorable!

Stop by this week to check in on them, grab some books, & see this amazing process for yourself! 😊
