💛Cool lil store with awesome collectibles from kinzua.

♥️ gave us some history lessons and more info on some of the displays from the wreckage of the bridge and other items, which was neat! Definitely would recommend stopping by if you're visiting the park.

💙 On an afternoon trip to McKean County and passed by The Big Level. We weren't sure what was there but we were up for an adventure, so we stopped in for a look. Such a cute little gift shop with a lot of educational things on display as well.

💚 Nice gift shop, unique items and very knowledgeable owner who gave us interesting historical facts on the area.

The Big Level🚂has added many more Bucktail/ Civil War artifacts to the museum.

After the parade, and service, Stop in at 599 Lindholm Rd. Just over 1 mile from the American Legion in Mt. Jewett and see the pieces of artillery and many other pieces that were acquired from the Battlefields.

Today is World Metrology Day, the science of measuring things. Two measuring tools used on the railroad were/are an inclinometer(used to measure the angle of the tilt of the tracks especially on curves), and a track gauge tool (used to measure and maintain the correct spacing of the tracks). Narrow gauge (late 1800’s-early 1900’s) was 3ft 6in wide, and standard gauge is 4ft 8.5in wide.
The Big Level🚂 has an antique wooden inclinometer/gauge tool on display in the museum.

Today, January 27, is the birthday of Thomas Leiper Kane, born 1/27/1822. When war broke out he was the first Pennsylvanian to sign up! He served as Union Army Colonel during the Civil War and commanded The Pennsylvania Bucktails Reserve Regiment during several battles. He was promoted to Major General for his gallantry in Gettysburg. After the war, his family settled in McKean County. He owned 100,000 acres of land where coal mining activities were occurring. He was President of The New York, Lake Erie and Western Coal Railroad Company. He proposed and funded the Kinzua Viaduct be built across Kinzua Creek Valley improving transportation to NY.
The Big Level and Kinzua Country Store located 2 miles from the Kinzua Bridge contains many artifacts on the viaduct, General Kane and the Civil War. It is quite the learning experience.

As we welcome 2026 🎉we extend our heartfelt thanks for your support! 🚂 The Big Level and Kinzua Country Store has welcomed many visitors to our museum 🏛️ and gift shop 🎁 including as far away as Germany!. We have had an exciting second year and we are looking forward to bringing you many 🆕 opportunities and outdoor adventures in the upcoming year.
