Happy Memorial Day weekend! Our favorite Navy veteran Mark Hogancamp is manning the gallery today from 12-5 so come by! For one of our artists in our exhibition, William C. Harrington, Vietnam was not just a subject, it was a lived reality. Serving as leader of Vietnam Combat Artists Team VII, Harrington drew and painted directly from the front lines, capturing moments of tension, humanity, and psychological weight that would shape his work for decades to come. His later sculptures and assemblages carry the same raw intensity — transforming memory, conflict, and survival into art that still resonates today. 📸 of Mark Hogancamp and

High in the landscape of Bent Mountain, Virginia, Genesis Chapman creates work deeply rooted in place. Surrounded by the old apple orchard on the property that serves as his studio, Chapman draws inspiration from the mountain’s growth and decay, changing weather, and quiet isolation. That feeling runs through his work. Attached a work on paper in Expanded Realities at One Mile open tomorrow 12-5.

🇺🇸 A Complicated Union: Art & Protest at America’s 250th Anniversary Opening June 27 at One Mile Gallery

In 2026, the United States marks its 250th anniversary — a moment to reflect not only on the nation’s founding ideals, but on the ongoing struggle to realize them.

A Complicated Union brings together artists examining America through the dual lens of love and protest: honoring the country while questioning, challenging, and expanding its promises.

The exhibition explores the U.S. Constitution, civil liberties, and the lived experience of freedom in America, with works that amplify marginalized voices and consider how dissent, resistance, and care for one’s country remain deeply intertwined. Art by .scharbach.studio

William C. Harrington created work that challenged the boundaries between memory, history, language, and perception. Harrington transformed industrial materials and personal experience into emotionally charged narratives that remain strikingly relevant today.

Now on view in Expanded Realities at One Mile Gallery, Harrington’s work is presented alongside the multidisciplinary practice of Genesis Chapman in a powerful dialogue about place, memory, conflict, and human connection. Spanning decades of artistic production, the exhibition highlights Harrington’s visionary approach to material and meaning.

Expanded Realities reveals how Harrington’s art continues to speak to contemporary life: questioning systems of power, confronting personal and collective histories, and inviting viewers into layered worlds of imagination and reflection. Through June 13th

Language shapes power. In this sculptural work, William C. Harrington confronts the manipulation of meaning through the lens of “newspeak” — a system where words are reduced, controlled, and weaponized to limit thought itself. Constructed from industrial materials, the piece reflects Harrington’s enduring concern with conflict and the erosion of truth in public life.

Decades after its creation, the work feels strikingly current: a reminder that when language is narrowed, imagination and dissent are often the first casualties.
