June FeaturedArtist Judith Burns says, "my painting, 'The Crane Who Carries the Dawn,' was inspired by a real Whidbey sky, and I added cranes to bring it to life. The day after I finished the painting, I was searching for a name when a poet I follow shared a beautiful Native American poem about a crane awakening Dawn to save the day from darkness. June Featured Artist Regina Kastler said "A couple of months ago, I met a man who asked me to weave a sailboat. That evening, I made a plan and realized that I could do it! The first one took me 2 ½ long days to construct. They still take 2 long days, butI have made six so far. This is my first time weaving something other than a basket. June Featured Artist Judith Burns works primarily in Acrylics with occasional forays into collage and mixed media. Judith shares the story behind one of her featured pieces, “Papillon de Fleur” – a 20 x 24 acrylic on canvas. She explains, “The star of my flower grouping is the Butterfly Amaryllis. A few years ago, I found the bulb pictured in a catalogue labeled Papillon de fleurs. They were amazing. I knew immediately I wanted to paint it. So, I ordered the rather expensive bulb, planted it, and waited for the bloom. It did not disappoint. It was spectacular and I couldn’t wait to paint it.”
