Ohio was among those that were hit the hardest from the rainfall. An estimated 6-11 inches of rain fell on frozen and snow-covered ground. The influx of water led to damages to life, businesses, and homes across the area.

This week's from Threads of Conflict: Echoes of the Civil War is this violin.

It was owned by Erastus R. Curtis of Lima, Ohio, who served 46 months in the 81st Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Modified with a metal worm-and-sector turning mechanism for faster adjustment, the instrument reflects practical adaptation for military life. Curtis requested it be displayed with his portrait, underscoring its personal significance.
