The Division of Economic Development and Outreach at the University of West Alabama is comprised of the Black Belt Museum, Center for the Study of the Black Belt, Continuing Education, and Black Belt Economic Development which seek to meet the economic, social, cultural and educational needs of the Alabama Black Belt region while promoting the economic, historical, cultural, and natural resources of the region.

The University of West Alabama hosted Alabama Power’s Safe-T-Zone program on July 16 to provide high-voltage electricity safety training for approximately 75 first responders in the Black Belt Region.

Students from Division of Engineering Technology at the University of West Alabama had the opportunity to learn how technology is transforming agriculture, forestry, and poultry operations through Auburn University’s Rural Partnership Initiative.

Thanks to UWA’s Division of Lifelong Learning and Economic & Workforce Development students participated in the AURPI Ag Tech certificate event highlighting forestry simulators, precision agriculture, and poultry technology, with industry insights from John Deere, Smurfit Westrock, and Enviva Biomass.

Drone demonstrations capped off the day, showcasing real-world applications like aerial mapping and crop monitoring—and opening students’ eyes to careers in ag-tech.
