Wishing all of the Moms, Step-Moms, Adopted Moms, Pet Moms, and Mother Figures out there today, a Happy Mothers’ Day! May you feel celebrated, cherished, and loved, no matter your title.
In looking at the classic 1966 Batman TV series, I think it teaches us that being motherly—truly being a Mom, is more than blood or title. Aunt Harriet has that maternal instinct. She worries for Bruce and Dick as though they were her own boys. Where are they off to in such an almighty hurry? They sure do a lot of fishing! She consults with Alfred, a father figure, to determine how worried she should be. She makes sure they are taken care of, and prioritizing what’s important in the half of the double life they live, that she knows of. Meetings, studies, school work, an appreciation for the finer things in life, piano practice. She isn’t biologically either of their mom’s, but Aunt Harriet; is their mom.
