Hosted by Yessíca Torres, owner and curator of Dama Gallery, this post opening series captures what happens after the exhibition opens and the reality of the art world sets in.

New episodes every Friday.

In the fifth episode of The Gallery Hangover, gallerist Yessíca Torres sits down with painter Gabriel Islas to discuss his evolving practice and the launch of PALS, a newly formed plein air painting group that is quickly setting a new standard for a rising generation of landscape painters.
Known for his atmospheric oil paintings, Gabriel draws from firsthand experience painting across some of the country’s most striking landscapes, including the Eastern Sierras, the Grand Tetons, and Denali in Alaska. The conversation centers on his commitment to plein air painting, the discipline behind working on site, and how scale, environment, and observation shape his work.

VOLVER AL ARTE

Opening Reception
Friday, June 5 | 7–9 PM

DAMA GALLERY
334 S Main Street, Los Angeles, CA 90013

Dama Gallery is proud to present Volver Al Arte (“Return to Art”), a contemporary group exhibition exploring the growing desire to reconnect with the physical, emotional, and intellectual experience of art in an age dominated by speed, spectacle, and digital saturation.

Featuring painting, photography, portraiture, abstraction, surrealism, pop-influenced works, and mixed media practices, the exhibition invites viewers to slow down and reconsider what it means to truly experience art beyond passive scrolling and algorithmic culture.

Volver Al Arte advocates for intentional artistic practice; work rooted in craftsmanship, conceptual depth, material understanding, and emotional resonance. Across mediums, the exhibition highlights the enduring value of embodied viewing, collecting, and living alongside art that continues to unfold over time.
