Mooradian Gallery was founded by Grigor Mooradian in 1991 with the purpose to represent Armenian art in the international marketplace. From 1991 to 2006 it exclusively collaborated with and represented Emil Kazaz, whose works have been internationally exhibited. Its purpose is to endorse works of art that span from the classical to modern day. As of 2007, Arthur Mooradian has led the gallery as di

rector by curating exhibitions and managing daily operations moving forward. The gallery currently showcases the art of over twenty leading artists whose works are exhibited world-wide and who have a permanent home in the museums in Armenia and abroad. The list includes such prominent artists as Martiros Saryan, Alexander Bazhbeuk-Melikyan, Joseph Karalian, Gevorg Grigorian (Giotto,) Gregorio Sciltian, Jean Carzou, Jean Jansem, Galents, Minas Avetisyan, Vruyr Galstian, Ashot Hovhanissian (Deghdz Ashot,) Hagop Hagopian, Gayane Khachaturian, Emil Kazaz, Sam Zumian, Sarkis Hamalbashian, Vahe Berberian, Ruben Abovian, and others.

Remembering Legendary Armenian artist Hagop Hagopian: Born on this day (May 24, 1923).

Hagop Hagopian (1923–2013), also known as Hakob Hakobyan, was a prominent modern Armenian painter celebrated for his unique style characterized by silence, nostalgia, and a linear approach to composition.

Early Life & Education: Born in Alexandria, Egypt, to a family of Armenian Genocide survivors. He studied at the Melkonian Educational Institute in Cyprus before attending the Cairo Academy of Fine Arts and eventually the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris under André Lhote.

Repatriation: In 1962, he moved to Armenia, where he spent the rest of his life developing his signature visual language.

Artistic Style and Theme:
Hagopian’s work is often praised for its “pursuit of perfection” and its ability to evoke deep human emotion through minimal subjects.

The Mooradian Gallery mission is to share the power of art to inspire and challenge by creating meaningful connections between artists, collectors, and the community. Our goal is to represent and celebrate the cultural legacy and history of Armenian artists in the international marketplace. To foster a vibrant space that serves as a welcoming environment for both seasoned collectors and those beginning to build their own collections of cultural history.

Mooradian Gallery is a 4,500-square-foot fine art space located at 5211 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90027, right in the heart of Hollywood’s Little Armenia neighborhood. Directed by Arthur Mooradian, it houses the largest collection of Armenian Fine Art in the United States, featuring over 100 historical, modern, and contemporary artists.

The gallery spans works from classical masters to contemporary visionaries. We specialize in premium Armenian artwork available for purchase, ranging from prominent museum-grade investment pieces to smaller gifts.

Key artists represented or showcased include:

Illusion (2022) is a prominent, large-scale contemporary oil painting created by the Armenian-American artist Sam Zumian (Samvel Hambardzumyan).

Emil Kazaz’s “Judith” (1995) is a celebrated bronze sculpture by the internationally acclaimed Armenian-American artist Emil Kazaz (born Emanuel Ghazazian). It is considered one of his most recognized and awarded modern artworks, highlighting the biblical story of Judith and Holofernes.

Description & Style: The sculpture is known for its “round,” “bodacious,” and “robust” depiction of the biblical heroine, often portrayed in a contrapposto pose. Kazaz’s interpretation often features a victorious and confident Judith with a subtle, “benign smirk”.

Key Version (1995): A 1995 version of this sculpture was donated by the Mooradian Gallery in 2004 to the permanent collection of the Yerevan Modern Art Museum of Armenia.”

Judith IV” (2009/2016): Other versions, such as “Judith IV” (2009), have been created in bronze with 24K gold leaf.

Sarkis Hamalbashian (born January 12, 1956) is a prominent contemporary Armenian artist based in Yerevan. Known for challenging Soviet artistic norms in the 1980s, he has emerged as a leading figure in post-Soviet Armenian art.

Artistic Style
Hamalbashian’s work is characterized by a distinctive blend of historical and modern influences:

Cultural Fusion: His paintings integrate elements of early Italian Renaissance, Russian iconography, and Armenian miniature painting.

Themes: Common subjects include still lifes, urban scenes, and narratives of abundance and emotion, such as his “History of the Eternal Now” series.
