Join local artist John Paul Amaral for a beading circle and conversation on its significance in Native American Indigenous cultures. John Paul will introduce students to methods of beadwork to create a traditional hairpipe choker necklace. While creating their own treasures, the beading circle will host a conversation about the significance of beadwork in American Indigenous cultures, how the art expanded over time, and its place in living history.

This past weekend, we welcomed over 400 artists, parents, teachers, and community members to the museum to celebrate our 97 exhibiting artists featured in ArtNow 2026: Before / Between / Beyond, our 15th annual juried high school art exhibition. It was an incredible afternoon celebrating the artistic talent in Santa Clara County.

A key highlight was announcing this year's award recipients. Over $10,000 in awards and scholarships were presented!

Thank you again to everyone who attended! And congratulations to the award recipients and all exhibiting artists!

New Museum Los Gatos (NUMU) is excited to partner with LGS Recreation to deliver this week-long camp for young artists to create a unique artwork that captures their perspective on the history and charm of Los Gatos. Participants will learn art techniques, explore the museum’s art & history exhibitions, walk the Los Gatos Creek trail, learn about local flora and fauna, visit local Los Gatos historic landmarks, and even meet some key town officials. Each day we’ll focus on a new topic and by the end of the week students will have completed a one-of-a-kind painting reflecting the theme “Capturing Life in Los Gatos.” The camp concludes with a mini-art show where campers proudly display their work for family and friends. This is a highly engaging interactive art and history experience that you don’t want to miss.

This is an evolution of a previous program, the Los Gatos Footbridge Mural Project. Returning students are welcome!

Week 1: June 8-12
Week 2: June 15-19
Week 3: June 22-26
Times: 9 AM-12 PM
Cost: $350 + $50 materials fee
Ages: 8-12 years old

"Radical introspection is difficult to embark upon in a noisy world. I set out on a solo journey deep into the wild to excavate and peel away the layers of patterns that were absorbed over decades, to deprogram and reprogram in the restoring frequency of nature's rhythms. Present and silent, attuned to the rivers and rain, the interplay of motion, stillness and contemplation, alone and all one, led to myriad discoveries."

Robin Ward, Streaming Mystic Equinox (2025), Video Art.

On view in Salon Jane: Resonance at New Museum Los Gatos (NUMU) through June 28, 2026, as part of Photo Carmel.
