New Museum Los Gatos (NUMU), formerly the Museums of Los Gatos founded in 1965, is a public non-profit art and history museum located in the Civic Center Plaza in downtown Los Gatos. NUMU’s mission is to engage the community at the intersection of art, history and education through innovative, locally connected and globally relevant exhibitions, programs and experiences. Museum hours:
THU 3-8pm (closed 5 - 5:30pm)
SAT - FRI 10am - 4pm (closed 1 - 1:30pm)

$10 General Admission

Join us at NUMU for a free celebration of Community Ignition, a group exhibition showcasing how art is created in the Disability Arts Community: in communities, through conversation and support, through interdependence, and within systems of care.

You'll enjoy contemporary art, meeting the artists, seeing a guide dog training, art activations, refreshments, and community!

Exhibiting artists include Madelyn Covey, Jillian Crochet, Leeza Doreian, Daniel Green, Susan Janow, Andrew Li, Tenaya Lovelace, Cara Miller, Dan Miller, Leroy Moore, Shawn Sanders, Maia Scott, Katherine Sherwood, Heather Shaw, Anthony Tusler, Jonathan Velasquez, and Krishna Washburn, and others. Co-curated by Maia Scott, Katherine Sherwood, and NUMU Curator Allison Railo.

Maia Scott's labyrinth installation, "You, &" invites visitors to add objects using provided hook-and-loop adhesive during the opening reception and during the run of the exhibit. The work brings together little things that lost their way, including things found on a journey, broken, or left in the dark corners of drawers. If you plan on attending, consider bringing something bigger than a silver dollar and smaller than a smartphone.

ArtNow is a juried high school art exhibition at New Museum Los Gatos (NUMU).

Students from across Santa Clara County are invited to submit a work responding to the theme, "What We Carry." We invite you to consider the many things you hold, from the mundane to the metaphorical.

Submissions are open November 1, 2026, though January 31, 2027.

What a lovely evening! Thank you to the many of you who joined us for our annual tradition: The Director’s Circle Artwork Reveal Event.

It was such a joy to share our latest exhibition New Additions and hear directly from our curator, Allison Railo. And the refreshing Hugo Spritz was a hit! But most importantly, it was lovely to connect with each other, celebrate your meaningful support of the museum, and of course have a great time.

It was an honor to unveil our newest addition to our Permanent Collection: Jody Alexander’s work exploring our Los Gatos waterways. I am deeply drawn to water, and I so appreciate Jody’s Aqua Lab series for capturing that captivating "third thing" that draws us to it. To our Director’s Circle members, I sincerely hope you enjoy this special piece in your collections. I truly cannot express enough gratitude for your support. Your generosity makes everything we do possible, from our dynamic art and history exhibitions to creative community programs like our monthly history talks.

Make your own spooky papier-mâché mask at NUMU! 🦇

Join instructor Leyla Carleo for a hands-on workshop where you will learn the basics of building your own papier-mâché mask just in time for the spooky season!

You will learn papier-mâché techniques and tips, explore materials, and create your own spooky or silly mask in this two-day workshop. Day one will be spent creating the form. Bring your ideas, as you have the opportunity to create anything you want under the guidance of artist Leyla Carleo. After the building, your mask will dry overnight at NUMU in our MakerSpace.

Day two will be spent painting and decorating.  You will leave with a completed and unique mask that can be both functional and decorative!  Invite a friend to sign up for even more fun.

All levels welcome, and materials are provided. For all ages (16 & under must be accompanied by a ticketed adult).

Join us at NUMU to celebrate the opening of Community Ignition, a group exhibition showcasing how art is created in the Disability Arts Community: in communities, through conversation and support, through interdependence, and within systems of care. The concept of interdependence, or mutual reliance, celebrates asking for assistance and honors the collaboration that is often present in artistic practice. NUMU provides a venue for conversation and learning to shift perspectives and develop awareness of disability culture and artists with disabilities. Co-curated by Maia Scott and Katherine Sherwood.

Exhibition on view October 16, 2026 – March 21, 2027.

Learn about the collaboration that made the Reawakening exhibitions possible at a Graduate Research Showcase.

Reawakening: Muwekma Ohlone Culture and Connection in Pursuit of Recognition
Viewers will learn about the Muwekma Ohlone’s “Trail of Truth” journey on horseback from California to Washington D.C. to advocate for the reinstatement of their federal recognition. They traveled with sacred horses gifted to them by the Lakota Nation, and were supported by several tribal nations across the US that welcomed them on their land and reinforced their message to the US Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Reawakening: Reciprocity of Land, Sea, and the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe

This exhibition focuses on the Muwekma Ohlone’s cultural and practical efforts in land stewardship, including cultural burns and the cultivation of native plants that provide resources for regalia making, food, and traditional healing. They are reawakening their Chochenyo language as well as dance, music, song, and ceremonies. This exhibition sheds light on the Tribe’s ongoing cultural revival after a century of erasure following the loss of, and the fight to regain, federal recognition.

A huge thank you to Gordon Yamate for holding Constitution Writing sessions at the museum. It's incredibly important for our community to get hands-on with history and better understand the foundation of our government and your rights.

We'd also like to thank the Los Gatos chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for creating a temporary information station and holding a bell ringing to celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the American Constitution 🔔🔔🔔

Learn to oil paint your very own seascape! 🌊

Capture the magical light of the Central Coast in oils with local landscape painter, Victoria Galitzine. This class will cover the basics of solvent-free oil painting utilizing the expressive “alla prima” (wet-on-wet) technique. Victoria will guide you step-by-step on how to layer oils using quick, intuitive brushwork. All ability levels are welcome.

Interested in trying figure drawing for the first time or brushing up on your skills? Join us at NUMU for our monthly, self-guided figure drawing sessions! Each session will take place in our Flick Drawing Studio with a live model, easels, newsprint paper, and pencils.

Upcoming sessions include Thu, Sep 24, and Thu, Oct 8, 12-2 PM. Doors will be locked for the duration of the session, starting promptly at noon. Please arrive by 11:45 AM. Pre-registration is required.
