Artifact Spotlight: Red and Black Sweater

Sweater weather has arrived—and Buddy Holly had a style for it.

This black and red sweater is made from 100% lamb’s wool by Bernhard Altmann and was made in Austria. Beyond its connection to Buddy, the sweater offers a glimpse into the fashions of the era and the personal style of one of rock & roll’s most recognizable figures.

Stop in this fall and take a closer look at this piece of Buddy Holly’s wardrobe!

Artifact Spotlight: Buddy’s Gibson LP Amp

Buddy Holly’s Gibson Les Paul amplifier helped transform the sound of his guitar, giving early rock & roll the volume and energy that made it impossible to ignore.
Long before modern concert sound systems and digital effects, musicians relied on amplifiers like this one to make themselves heard—and sometimes, to make quite a racket!

Stop by the Buddy Holly Center today to see this amplifier (generously on loan from The Buddy Holly Educational Foundation) on display and learn more about the man behind the music!

Artifact Spotlight: A Letter from 1958

On October 1, 1958, a fan sat down to write to Buddy Holly. More than six decades later, that letter gives us a meaningful look at the connection Buddy had with his fans during his rise to fame.

Fan letters like this one remind us that Buddy’s music wasn’t just heard; it meant something to the people listening.

What would you have written to Buddy?
