8, 9 & 10: Austria Pavilion with its long lines. Every hour a different woman goes up the rope, hangs upside down, bangs the bell several times and comes down. I got to see 2 women and then left without entering the Pavilion 😳 because I had at least another hour of waiting to be able to go in. Not worth it. Read Florentina Holzinger’s statement and you get the picture.

Ei Arakawa-Nash
Grass Babies, Moon Babies
Japan Pavilion - Giardini
Co-curators: Horikawa Lisa and Takahashi Mizuki

This is an interesting installation that at first might seem strange or not inviting, but upon reading the curatorial statement it totally makes sense in this day and age.

Against a backdrop of war, collapse, and declining global birth rates, Grass Babies, Moon Babies by Ei Arakawa-Nash unfolds as a meditation on care, futurity, and collective responsibility. Rooted in the artist’s experience of becoming a parent during the pandemic, the installation reflects on what it means to raise children amid social precarity and technological uncertainty.
A participatory element deepens the work’s emotional resonance: visitors may carry weighted baby dolls through the space, momentarily inhabiting the gestures and responsibilities of caregiving. Hidden within each diaper, a QR code reveals a personal poem addressed to the participant — an intimate and unexpectedly tender encounter that transforms the act of “playing parent” into one of reflection, vulnerability, and connection.

Inter-Reality
Chilean Pavilion Inauguration 🇨🇱
Co-curators: Marisa Caichiolo and Dermis León
Commissioner: Florencia Loewenthal

Inter-Reality by Norton Maza operates through fissures, apertures, and fragmented viewpoints that invite the spectator into concealed dystopian landscapes suspended between fiction and reality. Rooted in illusionistic traditions of Baroque painting and theatrical mise-en-scène, the installation reflects on migration, ecological collapse, political tension, and the instability of truth within the contemporary global condition.

Monitor Yin Yang
Argentinian Pavilion Inauguration 🇦🇷
Curator Josefina Barcia

Monitor Yin Yang by Matías Duville unfolds as an immersive terrain of friction and coexistence, where salt, charcoal, sound, and movement converge in a shifting cartography of ruin and renewal. Oscillating between the intimate and the collective, the installation stages a speculative landscape in which nature reclaims the human-made, tracing the fragile tension between collapse, persistence, and desire.
