Weโ€™re excited to be part of EXPO Chicago, running April 9โ€“12 at Navy Pier.

This year, we present Between Places: Rewriting Homeโ€”a multi-generational dialogue reflecting on displacement, memory, and evolving ideas of home within Korean contemporary art and its diasporic paths.

Featuring Hajin Kang, Oan Kyu, Toshiro Yamaguchi, SangHo Byun, Mina Jin, and Shinduk Kang.

At the heart of the presentation is a previously unseen work from Hajin Kangโ€™s Natural Rhythm seriesโ€”quiet, meditative, and deeply rooted in memory. Across the booth, each artist brings a distinct voice, from reflective materials and lenticular shifts to text-driven works and contemplative landscapesโ€”together forming a conversation shaped by movement, identity, and transformation.

Would love to see you in Chicago ๐Ÿค

Galerie PICI presents Between Places: Rewriting Home, a multi-generational presentation exploring displacement, migration, memory, and evolving notions of home within Korean contemporary art and its diasporic trajectories. Bringing together works by Hajin Kang (1943โ€“2023), SangHo Byun (b. 1970), Mina Jin (b. 1966), and Shinduk Kang (b. 1952), the presentation examines how artists negotiate identity and belonging across shifting cultural and geographic contexts. The presentation marks the Hong Kong debut of Hajin Kang, SangHo Byun, and Mina Jin.

SangHo Byun (b. 1970)โ€™s dynamic paintings blend bold colors and surreal storytelling, merging childhood memories with fantasy. His works invite viewers to reconsider the boundaries between past and present, where nostalgia and cultural imagination form vibrant, fluid narratives.

At the heart of the presentation is a tribute to the late Hajin Kang (1943โ€“2023), a pioneering minimalist whose Natural Rhythm series embodies spiritual endurance and resilience. Through subtle layering and repetition, Kang transforms the canvas into a meditative space, reflecting themes of self-preservation and survival shaped by his post-war Korean childhood. His recent passing adds poignancy to his minimalist approach, grounding this presentation in both personal and collective memory.
