As we celebrate our 125th Anniversary, we are looking at a different decade each month. Here is what was happening in Blue Earth County in the 2000s!

2001 – Floodwaters reached 26.67 feet in June, temporarily closing HWY 169, but not greatly affecting the Mankato-North Mankato area.

2002 - The Mankato Moondogs held their inaugural season.

2003 - Minnesota State University, Mankato saw riots after the homecoming game.

2004 - Then-Presidential Candidate George W. Bush visited Mankato. He was the second presidential candidate to visit the area, the previous being William Taft in 1911.

2006 - Mankato West High School Teacher Tim Walz was elected to national office

2008 - Walmart Distribution Center opens.

2009 - The new Blue Earth County Justice Center opened, Riverfront Park opened, and the first RibFest was held.
