Fields of Memory is a collection of paintings developed through a community arts program led by artist Kim Darling in collaboration with ArtBank and supported by the Nebraska Arts Council's Creative Aging Arts Grant Program. Created at Kinship Point Senior Center the work reflects ongoing explorations of memory, place, and personal iconography.
Through a two week painting workshop series, participants developed individual visual languages shaped by lived experience. Each work carries recurring symbols, colors, and forms that function as personal marks that map memory and meaning through image.
Fields of Memory considers painting as a space where experience becomes visual form, and where memory becomes both material and metaphor. The exhibition highlights creative aging as a sustained and evolving practice, centered in reflection, expression, and connection.

Today ArtBank is open 1-8 pm. Please join us from 5-7 pm for a celebration of the Central Elementary fourth grade art students and their teacher Deb Goodenberger; 5 Corners Studio in honor of their collaborative project: Listen to the Land Doodle Mural

Central Elementary Fourth graders study Nebraska history every year. They also collaborated on a mural in autumn 2025 that required research on the symbols and images that remind us of where we live.

The Listen to the Land Mural has drawings created by 95 Fourth graders in art class. The images were transferred onto wooden panels that were tinted with colors reminiscent of the natural hues of our lands. Using black acrylic markers, the lines were traced, creating “doodle" like images.

The students are very grateful for the special "Listen to the Land" grant received through the Museum of Nebraska Art in Kearney. The grant recognizes the late Dr. Robert Manley, an eminent Nebraska historian, who believed that "in order for people to have a future, they must first know they have a past".

The Doodle Mural will have a permanent home at McCook's Central Elementary School.
