This Black History Month, the and celebrates legacy, artistry, and cultural power through an extraordinary new acquisition. Designed in 1988 by British footwear designer Emma Hope, this rare, limited-edition pair personifies the legendary Josephine Baker (1906–1975) . An international singer, dancer, activist, and icon, Baker redefined performance in the 20th century. Known as the ‘Black Goddess’ of cabaret, she mesmerized audiences worldwide.
This design is not only theatrical, but it is also museum significant. Another example from this limited edition is held in the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
At the MIAMI Shoe Museum, every shoe carries history. This one carries rhythm, resistance, and radiance.
