During WWII there was an airplane spotter post at Matamoras Airport (Currently Airport Park). This was a civil defense post manned between 1941 and 1945.

All of the beautifully tree lined streets in Milford didn't just happen by accident. In the 1830's the Quick family held "Tree Bees". Mr. Emanuel Quick and his neighbors would hitch their horses to lumber box wagons, and go into the swampy areas around the town to collect maple saplings.
The next day, the foragers would pick a street in the town, and plant the trees from one end to the other. Every year, a different street was picked until all of the streets in town were in fact, tree lined.

The Greek Revival style Dutch Reformed Church in Dingman's Ferry, built in 1850, was transformed into a residence in 1957. Since 1972, it's been home to antiques dealer Doug Cosh, who has leased the property since 1986. Before that, he ran his antiques business from the nearby Phoenix Antiques shop, once the church's carriage house. 🏛️

A little history about APPLE VALLEY VILLAGE!

Originally known as Pal's Diner and Pal's Modern Cabins, Apple Valley Village, as we know it started out as a diner and lodging for vacationers.

Rumor has it that the original diner started out as a gondola for a zepplin! There is no actual documentation to verify this, but there were brass plates found in the basement during renovations that would have been used in the structure of a gondola.

Once the property was obtained by Ed Metzger, he had a vision for setting up a Pancake house and turning the cabins into shops like those he had seen at Peddler's Village. Mr. Metzger actually got help from the Pillsbury Company to open his pancake house.

The name "Apple Valley" came about because the property was actually in a valley and it had apple trees which belonged to the Pinchots.

The original shops in Apple Valley were Helen Elliott Candies, a glass blowing shop, Ross Antiques and Helen Metzger's gift shop, The Colonial (later renamed "The Temptuous Apple").
