We had a wonderful time celebrating our 2026 honorees during a reception on May 15. Gathering for brunch, conversation, and celebration was a lovely sight to see in our gallery. Thank you to all who attended, and we hope to see you soon!

Happy Tuesday! Above is a selection from the 2026 Celebration of Alabama Arts exhibition currently on view. Come and learn about each honoree's life in the arts and view a selection of objects and memorabilia pivotal to each of their careers!

Now on view! Celebration of Alabama Arts exhibition features meaningful objects from each of our 2026 honorees' careers. This exhibition sheds light on the myriad of way these Alabamians champion the arts.

Our 2026 honorees are Debbie Bond, Gary Chapman, George Culver, Eric Essix, Ralph Frohsin Jr., Gary Waldrep, and Scott Wright. They served as co-curators for their sections, selecting items that encapsulate pivotal moments in their careers or artifacts of personal significance, which gives the viewer a behind-the-scenes look into their artistic journeys.

This exhibition is a companion to the Celebration of Alabama Arts event on Thursday, May 14 at 7:00 pm, at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. All are welcomed to attend. To reserve a free ticket, check out the link in our bio.

The 2026 Celebration of Alabama Arts exhibition is on view now!

This year's honorees served as co-curators for their sections, selecting items that encapsulated pivotal moments in their careers or artifacts of personal significance, which gives the viewer a behind-the-scenes look into their artistic journeys.

This exhibition seeks to provide a visual record of the hard work of these individuals and to complement the awards ceremony on May 14. (Reserve your free tickets at arts.alabama.gov/celebrate)

The Georgine Clarke Alabama Artists Gallery is located on the first floor of the RSA Tower (201 Monroe Street, Montgomery, AL). The gallery is free and open to the public, Monday–Friday, 1:00 pm–4:45 pm.

Join us this Friday, March 27th from 4-6pm for the closing reception for the 2025 Fellowship Spotlight exhibition!

This exhibition was special, as it was the first shown post gallery renovations. The collection of works were a testament to the talent found throughout Alabama.

Our final 2025 Fellowship Spotlight artist is Charity Rachelle!

Charity Rachelle of Birmingham was awarded the Gary Burke Memorial Photography Fellowship. She is a lens-based documentary artist exploring tradition and tribalism in the U.S. with a concentrated gaze on the Deep South. Charity's long-form photo series, "The Promised Land," (some photos featured above) documents the daily lives of religious community members living on a compound in rural Alabama. Through her work, she investigates humankind's tendency toward group conformity, calling attention to complexities that are often reduced to stereotypes and cliches.

Today's 2025 Fellowship Spotlight artist is Will Jacks!

Will Jacks of Troy was awarded a Media/Photography Fellowship. Will is a process artist best known for his photographic work. He Incorporates explorations with land, objects, sound, video, and community engagement into his practice. HIs research examines the blurred areas between art and journalism, individual and collective, and the impact of each on the other. Will holds an MFA in studio art from the Maine College of Art, an MA in Journalism from the University of Mississippi, and currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Art/Photography at Troy University.

Another Thursday, another 2025 Fellowship Artist Spotlight!
Today's spotlight artist is Michael Swann.

Michael Swann of Tarrant was awarded a Visual Arts Fellowship. Michael works primarily as a painter, but enjoys utilizing a variety of mediums; in addition to oils, these include printmaking, airbrushing, and materials commonly used in the automotive field. Thematically, his interests range from human connection, memories, spiritualism to surrealism. He runs Gallery VOX, a contemporary art space, in Tarrant. Michael holds a BFA from Birmingham Southern College.

Happy Thursday! Today's Fellowship Artist spotlight is Cynthia Wagner.

Cynthia Wagner of Huntsville was awarded a Visual Arts Fellowship. Cynthia, a mixed media artist, photographer, and painter moved to Huntsville in 2012 after living all over the U.S. and Europe. She considers herself a visual narrator, illustrating fleeting, decidedly human stories through visual metaphors by using various artistic mediums.
She holds degrees in painting and visual communications/photography, and her work has been exhibited in many public settings and is held in several corporate and museum collections.

Come visit us and experience Cynthia's work for yourself! We are open M-F, 1-4:45pm or by appointment (details in bio) or come join us for the 2024 Fellowship Spotlight closing reception on Friday, March 27, 4-6pm.

Today's Fellowship Spotlight artist is Roscoe Hall!

Roscoe Hall of Birmingham was awarded a Visual Arts Fellowship. A chef by trade, Roscoe's art employs the contemporary narratives of the migration of African Americans from the North to the Southeastern U.S. His narratives of the contemporary South use what he calls "ingredients" are cultivated within crops picked at their peak in his paint pigments. His works have been shown and acquired nationally at various institutions.
