My paintings start with a pencil sketch followed by layers of watercolor until the saturation and tones are where I want them… and then comes the India Ink. Sometimes I can spend as many hours at this stage as I did in the painting itself.

Where do you spend the most time? Does the art in that room actually reflect how much time you spend there?

The spaces we use most deserve the most thought.

On my mind lately: "Honey Bee"

I’m in the Bay Area this weekend for the Bay Area Book Festival. Today it’s the YouthLit area. I’m set up directly across from the Berkeley Public Library. I’ll be here from 10:30-5pm (I’m actually here now). So if you haven’t met Creepy Frank, Creepy George or Doc Brinesprocket, you should come by! This is my first book event and I’m not sure what to expect so come keep me company!

Jubilee

This watercolor painting, titled “Jubilee,” captures a stunning rear view of an elephant striding proudly through a golden field of tall grasses, with its trunk raised and ears outstretched. The composition emphasizes the elephant’s majestic size and powerful presence against a soft, clouded sky. The artist’s delicate brushwork and use of earthy tones bring out the textures of the elephant’s skin and the serene beauty of the landscape, creating a sense of peaceful strength.

Here is a question worth sitting with: what do you actually see when you walk into your own home?

Not what is there, but what do you still notice? What draws your eye?

What have you stopped seeing because it has been there so long?

"Bahama Star Fish" and the online art gallery is here, if you need to switch things up.

Mako

In Mako Shark, this captivating watercolor captures the fierce energy of the ocean’s fastest predator in vivid detail. The mako shark charges forward with jaws open, showcasing its streamlined body and powerful form built for speed. Steely greys and whites blend seamlessly with frothy blues and whites of the surrounding water, creating a sense of dynamic motion as the shark cuts through the waves. This piece encapsulates the raw beauty and strength of the mako shark, bringing the thrill of the ocean’s wild energy to life.
