Lightning bugs...or fireflies? What did you call them growing up? ✨

These glowing members of the Lampyridae family are a sure sign that summer has arrived, and our nature preserve provides the perfect habitat for them to thrive.

Jois us for Firefly Fridays every Friday in June for a guided evening hike to our Oatka Creek meadow, an area not usually open to visitors, and experience the magic of fireflies in their natural habitat. We’ll provide the bug nets and jars—you bring the curiosity.

Light up your summer nights! Join us for this popular family-friendly evening program! This year, Firefly Fridays are coming up Fridays, June 5, 12, 19, and 26 , from 8 - 10 p.m.! ✨

Fireflies, also known as lightning bugs, glowworms, or members of the Lampyridae family, are magical little creatures. Come join us to learn more about them and their powers of bioluminescence, right in their natural habitat. Bring your family for a guided evening hike across from the main campus in our Oatka Creek meadow, a place visitors don’t normally get to see.
