Watching the Lowcountry Zoo and Floyd Family Farm animals is always time well spent!

And we’re pretty sure the Spanish Goats might be top of many guests (and zookeepers) list. They’re curious, playful, and just plain fun. But for our animal care team, watching is also an essential part of the job.

Observing how each animal, moves, plays, eats and generally interacts is important to note in case changes occur that may need extra attention.

Get inspired this pumpkin season 🎃

As an AZA-accredited zoo, we love shining light on SAFE species, especially the programs we take part in. We're proud to highlight the North American Monarch and American Red Wolf—both SAFE programs include a focus on recovery and population growth.

We carved our own pumpkins using the AZA SAFE species-inspired templates, and you can join in! Choose your species, grab your carving tools and give wildlife a place on your porch. Help spark a conversation about the species behind the design—you never know what impact your pumpkin might make.

🧚‍♂️A whimsical family day in the Gardens awaits...

Join us for Children's Imagination Walk—where costumes and curiosity are encouraged! Grab your map at Keepsakes and begin a magical journey through the Gardens in search of imaginative activity stations. Along the way, children can discover something new, create crafts, play games, collect candy, and uncover special surprises.

We’re also excited to welcome community partners including the Georgetown County Sheriffs Office, Midway Fire Rescue, and Grand Strand Shell Club. Be sure to visit their stations along the trail and see what they have in store!

Big bad wolf? Let’s rethink that!

This National Wolf Awareness Week we want to highlight the importance of wolves in the wild because they deserve a better story. Wolves help keep a balanced ecosystem by regulating prey species and strengthening local habitats.

Seeing wolves in the forest isn’t scary, it’s actually a sign of a healthy ecosystem. It’s when we don’t see them anymore that we should be fearful.

Here at Brookgreen, we are part of the SAFE (Saving Animals From Extinction) program to keep this critically endangered species from disappearing. Your ticket purchase, membership, and donations all aid in allowing us to continue to do conservation work across the Zoo and Gardens.

Join renowned wildlife photographer and conservationist Ron Magill for a special early morning photography guided experience in Brookgreen Gardens’ zoo area this Saturday, October 24th. This is a rare opportunity to sharpen your skills and learn alongside one of the nation's premier wildlife experts.

Drawing on decades of experience photographing animals around the world, Magill will also discuss patience, observation, and ethical wildlife photography. Ron is the Goodwill Ambassador and Conservation Liaison for the Zoo Miami Foundation and a nationally recognized wildlife expert, photographer, and conservation advocate. He has spent decades photographing wildlife and using his images to inspire greater understanding and appreciation of animals and the natural world.
