Claybanks Pottery Visit our gallery to find a family of artists creating hand made, high fire stoneware pottery along the shores of Lake Michigan.

Our inspiration for our pots- from shape & texture to glazes- is evident in the picturesque environment that surrounds us. Open year round, the crew of artists work steadily to build up their stock of handmade dishes, pots, lamps, and other household items in preparation for the summer “rush.” It is not unusual for the crew to work very long hours. The process for making durable stoneware pottery takes weeks to be done properly. Each piece of work must be created wet, dry (at least a week), undergo a bisque firing (8 hours approx.), glazing, and a final high firing in the gas kiln which takes a couple of days to be done correctly. The resulting stoneware pottery is beautiful, durable and dishwasher safe. Visitors are welcome to wander through the studio and watch the artists at work. The pace is leisurely and the atmosphere is friendly, so plan time to browse.

Today’s the day! And what a quintessential fall W. Michigan day for an adventure! Stop out and see us and catch the sunset (7:10pm) after a day of Oceana County country roads shop hopping! The fall colors are popping!
Stop at any of the 6 shops between 10-5 in any order you want and grab your passport! Get them all stamped and enter to win!

Come see what we and 5 other shops have been preparing for your visit! We fired two kiln load this week just to be ready with pots loading the gallery shelves! The 5th annual Autumn Country Roads Shop Hop this Saturday from 10-5!

There’s the chill in the air that fall brings, but it’s a sunshiny and beautiful outlook for the next couple of weeks.
It looks like our 5th Annual Autumn Road Shop Hop that is next Saturday will allow us to see the early glimmers of the fall colors that we know and love in Oceana County!
We are open every day 10 to 5 and next Saturday you can make a day of it and visit six quaint shops! Help us spread the word about our event!

Glaze day is when we add the next layer of creativity to our thrown and hand pieced pots! We make all of our own glazes, each with a specific recipe of finely ground minerals to get the colors and smooth glossy texture we are looking for.
It’s a long creative day, but we have to wait a while longer until we can see our final masterpieces as they come out of the kiln!
