Save the date for a new holiday-themed fundraising event at CMOR: A Flattop Home for the Holidays! This event will feature the Flattop House decorated for the holidays circa 1945. Visitors will have access to the museum and the Flattop House and enjoy special activities and holiday-themed refreshments. Tickets will go on sale November 1.

Third Sunday is today (10/18) from 1 - 4 pm! Enjoy the last open house of the Kids Go Green! Environmental Center and Gardens and Solar House for the season. Visit the Knoxville Area Model Railroaders, Inc. clubhouse, visit the Train Garden, collect vintage and international stamps from the Knoxville Philatelic Society, and learn about amateur radio with the Oak Ridge Amateur Radio Club. Included with admission.

P.S. The historic Flattop House will be open but requires a small additional fee. Flattop admission is free for Family Premier/Reciprocal Sustainer and above members and for children ages 1 and younger. A volunteer will be on hand to show you the house and answer your questions.

Join us at a new drop-in program tomorrow, 10/18 from 1:15 – 3:30 pm! This month, we will learn about worms, dig in one of the garden beds to see how many worms we can find, and add live worms to help enrich the soil. We’ll also make our own watering cans and vote on our favorite designs. This program is free with admission!

Please bring a clean, empty 2–4 quart plastic container—such as a milk jug or laundry detergent bottle—that we can upcycle into a watering can. We’ll have a few extras available if you don’t have one.

In need of a meaningful holiday gift for a history lover?

Each fall, the Children's Museum opens the Victory Brick campaign to raise funds to maintain and improve the Flattop House, an original structure that is an important part of Oak Ridge's rich Manhattan Project history.

You can help the Flattop House by donating an engraved Victory Brick ($250 each). Each brick can have up to 4 lines of text. Your engraved brick will be added to the Victory Brick walkway that is in front of the Flattop House.

Our latest gallery exhibition, Families of the Valley Remembered, is on display in the Imagination Gallery until October 31. Visit the exhibition before it’s too late, included with admission!

Developed by the Tennessee State Parks and the Tennessee Valley Authority, this exhibition of Lewis Hine photographs documents the people who lived near the confluence of the Clinch and Powell Rivers before 1934. Almost 3,000 families were relocated before the building of Norris Dam and the flooding of former homes and farms. Hine took these photographs over a one-month period.

The Children’s Museum is grateful to the Manhattan Project National Historical Park for providing this exhibition for display, and to the Tennessee Arts Commission for its support.

The Gala will feature exciting live and silent auctions, delicious food from Birdwell Catering, Inc., and guest speaker Don Hunnicutt, who will be speaking about trains in Oak Ridge during the Manhattan Project-era. Hunnicutt is the son-in-law of the late Ed Westcott, whose photos captured life in the Secret City.

The historic Flattop House is open next Sunday (10/18) from 1-4 pm. A friendly volunteer will be on hand to show you the house and answer your questions.
