The Museum is thrilled to partner with Omaha Refugee Week. Refugee Week is a week-long festival celebrating the contributions, creativity, and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary in Omaha. Join us on June 19 at 3pm, for a 30-minute lecture on themes of forced migration in Samuel Bak's paintings. RSVP at https://hubs.ly/Q04hLTg70 After the lecture, attendees will be invited to tour the current exhibition Justice and Hope - which includes the work of artists also displaced by war and genocide.

Symbol Sunday! Have you ever wondered why Lady Justice is often shown with a double-edged sword? It symbolizes how the justice system applies equally to both plaintiffs and defendants. Her sword is typically unsheathed, communicating transparency in the justice system. Stay tuned for more symbols this month!

Staff Favorite! UNO Student Worker, Lauren E's favorite work on display is "Geometry of Sadness" by Maja Ruznic. She says, "When I look at "Geometry of Sadness", I can begin to feel Ruznic’s quiet longing for a home that exists now only in memory. "Geometry of Sadness" reads, to me, as a deeply honest portrayal of how memory moves. It is fading in and out over time, as those out-of-reach moments become more abstract, blurring at the edges. I think of my own, now-distant memories, as well as the experiences of my loved ones who have immigrated away from their own homes, carrying those places with them in memory."
