Today we honor a local soldier whose final resting place is in Europe. PFC Edward John Perdue was born August 22, 1910, in Grindstone City. He was killed in action on January 24, 1945, in Born, Belgium. His grave is in the American War Cemetery in Henri-Chapelle.

Fields of Honor is a nonprofit organization that has been working since 2007 to keep alive the memory of fallen American liberators. They contacted the history center last year to learn more about Private Perdue, and we were able to provide additional information. Click on the link in the comments to learn more about Private Perdue and the Fields of Honor Foundation.

Turn your extra flowers into support for the history center!

Please think of us as you are thinning your plantings this spring. Just drop off your surplus plants on the east side of our main building any time through June 12. (If you know the color of the plant's flower, please tell us.) Any questions? Email us at [email protected]. Thanks for your help!

We've finished our spring cleaning and we are ready for visitors starting Saturday! May hours: Saturday & Sunday 1–4 pm.
