What a beautiful fall day! Volunteers at the Lumberyard Museum took advantage of it.

The Sid Holodnick Memorial Garden fence is going up, section by section. The goal is to protect this lovely garden from hungry deer.

The Lumberyard Museum is part of historic Port Hope, along with the nearby 1904 Depot and Caboose. Two amazing museums in a town of 270. And there’s more to see here.

There is an event coming up that is historical in nature. It is about fiber, wool and spinning but it also includes other homemade crafts also. Here are the details.

Tip of the Thumb Crafts and Fiber Festival in Port Hope on October 23 & 24. Free admission for the public and $65 for vendors.

Vendor Deadline is Oct. 19th!!!

This was a good week to do a few things outdoors at the Lumberyard Museum.

Some pieces of the garden fencing were placed. A QR code sign for the Barn Quilt Project was set. An historic sign from the predecessor to Buck’s Port Hope Diner found a new home under the overhang. Some plants were trimmed.

And RB’s animated contraption — Santa’s sleigh, reindeer and elf — was brought inside for any needed repairs before it’s installed on the front lawn for Christmas.

(One can only describe as a contraption something that uses an old washing machine agitator to make reindeer legs move and Santa’s arms wave.)

Meanwhile, indoors, volunteers puttered with this, that, and the other thing before adjourning for lunch (thank you, Judy; it was delicious).

This is a remarkable community that volunteers its time and treasure to tell big stories about America’s history.
