Saturday May 30th at the Community Garden at Sylvan Park in Redlands! Explore the roots of photography and experiment with a low-toxic developer made from household items in this hands-on workshop. The demonstration will teach participants how to mix a low-toxicity solution to develop pictures inside their cameras, using 3D printed pinhole cameras that are designed to serve as image-maker and developing tanks.

Thursday May 21st from 3:30-5pm, join us at the Community Garden at Sylvan Park in Redlands for a lumen & phytogram workshop with Redlands resident artist !

The Lumen & Phytogram presentation will connect participants with the natural environment by exploring how plants can be used to create photographic images. The Phytogram process, developed by Karel Doing in 2016, is related to Lumen printing but combines plant phytochemicals to alter silver halides on contact. The demonstration will teach participants how to mix a low-toxicity solution for soaking plants, contact printing, and the joys of photographic alchemy.

Thursday May 21st, join us at from 9-10:30am for our workshop “In Step With Insects” with Morongo Basin resident artist Kristen Wheatley ()!

In this workshop, we’ll follow prompts that encourage participants to notice insect life underfoot and take time to move at their pace. We will consider the complex systems of insect colonies and the behavior of individuals as we observe their movements. This gathering is an opportunity to become more familiar with the bugs that call the Preserve home.

Thanks to everyone who braved the weather on Saturday evening and came out to our workshop “Collaging for a Better Word: Imagining a Landscape” with ! We had to make a last minute venue change to our resident artist studio at the University of Redlands, directly across the street from the REACH Community Garden, due to the rain so we had an impromptu open studio event! This Saturday from 5-7pm, join us at the new Community Garden at Sylvan Park in Redlands for our second workshop with , “Collaging for a Better World: Imagining a Landscape”

Participants will create small collage landscapes using handmade paper, nature and landscape photographs, and nature prints made with ink from leaves and flowers. Inspired by quotes by activists and artists like Bell Hooks and Ana Mendieta, we’ll collectively layer, cut, and imagine a better future. The workshop includes a conversation on how art has been used as a catalyst for change and to discuss and honor the environment.
