The VTSU Castleton Bank Gallery presents “Graphites, Gorges & Glens,” an exhibition featuring E. Gilmutdinov, a Connecticut-based artist originally from Eastern Russia. This collection highlights Gilmutdinov's proficiency in both draftsmanship and acrylic painting. Drawing inspiration from travel, local and international landscapes, as well as Impressionism, his works are inspired by the style of Van Gogh. His pieces depict European cities, valleys, and the natural scenery of Connecticut. Through detailed graphite drawings, tranquil acrylics, and a distinctive use of shape and form, Gilmutdinov offers viewers a unique perspective on the world.

Artists Chrystal Bean and Julie Griffith were both considered "non-traditional" college students. They each came to the Community College of Vermont with a wealth of lived experience before transferring to Castleton to earn their Bachelor's degrees. Now, both artists are candidates for the Master's of Fine Arts degree through Vermont State University. Their work is 'candid', open and forthright. In different ways, both artists explore themes of connection, healing, and the complexities of human existence in today's world.

September 18- November 1
Thurs, Fri, Sat 12:00-6:00 pm
Opening Reception: Thursday, September 18, 1-3 pm

ARC Self-Advocates, the Aktion Club, and the VTSU Castleton University Bank Gallery are proud to present “Art by Any Other Name,” a group exhibition by “Self-Advocates Becoming Empowered”. They have trained as storytellers, presenting to local and state organizations, emphasizing the commonalities between people living with developmental disabilities and the non-disabled population. The Aktion Club is a community-minded group of developmentally disabled adults. They create projects to raise funds for Rutland County organizations supporting needy families, The Boys and Girls Club, and the Rutland Humane Society. This new Inclusion project, made possible by a Stewarts Grant, offers both groups the opportunity to create and share their artwork with the community.

The VTSU Castleton Bank Gallery is proud to present the exhibition "Alorithmocene" by artist Liz Lessner. These works emerge from the ten-year evolution of a glyph-like gestural language. This language is derived from the space between two bodies gesturing. In earlier works, these transient spatial configurations were captured in plaster and steel or abstracted into light-dispersing wall graffiti. Here they transform into rune-like figures. These new forms were derived from extra-linguistic artifacts and generated by an algorithm that uses sound as its input data. Shaped by a sound, rather than explicit language, these glyphs are mutations of previous relational encounters and echo the process by which memory processes relationships and gestural communication.

Join us for the artist's reception on August 8 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. All are welcome, admission is free.

The VTSU Castleton Bank Gallery is proud to present "Tres Amigos," an exhibition featuring the works of Thomas Hacker, Glen Hacker, and Emil Gilmutdinov. These three family members explore vastly different niche genres of art, yet the work complements each other, coming together to form a cohesive exhibition. Thomas Hacker captures sensory experiences, internalizing and analyzing them before channeling these into his abstract expressionist paintings. Glen Hacker's artwork draws heavy inspiration from the natural world, showcasing sea birds, fish, beaches, and open waters, as well as the stunning sunrises and sunsets of the Long Island Sound. Originally from Russia, Emil Gilmutdinov delves deep into his pieces to uncover meaning, striving to express a "kernel of truth" in each work. Meet the artists at the reception. All are welcome. Admission is free.
