Nigerian born critic, curator and writer, Okui Enwezor, has been appointed Director of the 56th Venice Biennale which will run from May to November of 2015. Enwezor is the first African born Director in the Biennale's 100 year history.

Through March 9, 2014, Wangechi Mutu: Fantastic Journey can be seen at the Brooklyn Museum. This fabulous exhibition is the first survey of Kenyan artist Mutu's work to be organized in the U.S.

Conflict arose at the Jo'Burg Art fair when a painting by Ayanda Mabulu was taken down at the direction of the art fair organizers.

A new painting concerning the Marikana shooting by controversial artist Ayanda Mabulu has been removed by the Joburg Art Fair. Mabulu previously came under fire for a painting depicting President Jacob Zuma with his ge****ls on show.

London (AFP) - The first fair of contemporary African art outside Africa opens in London on Wednesday, a testament to the growing market for works rooted in the social and political realities of a troubled continent.

Contemporary African photography in Nigeria
LagosPhoto 2013 will feature contemporary photography from across the African continent: Launched in 2010, LagosPhoto is the first and only international arts festival of
photography in Nigeria. In a month long festival, events include exhibitions, workshops, artist presentations, discussions, screenings, and large scale outdoor prints displayed throughout the city with the aim of reclaiming public spaces and the general public with multifaceted stories of Africa. LagosPhoto aims to establish a community for contemporary photography which will unite local and international artists through images that encapsulate individual experiences and identities from across all of Africa.
