Save the date for our upcoming exhibition, Between Day & Night, by Parisian artist Gilles Marrey.

Artist Reception with Gilles Marrey
St. Helena | Saturday, May 30 | 4 – 6pm

The paintings will be available for acquisition on May 28th.

“Entangled during the day, shadows and light separate from one another, each gathering within its own territory: the sky for one, the earth for the other. We say that “night falls,” though in truth it rises like a flood from the ground, submerging the city. This “terrestrial twilight” gradually lights up with a multitude of artificial lights: streetlamps, signs, car headlights, shop windows, cafés, restaurants, and the lamps in apartments turning on as evening approaches — small points of brilliance in the darkness, tiny stars in this inverted night sky. These fleeting yet intense moments are the emotions I sought to capture.

I spent a great deal of time drawing San Francisco and its surroundings in my sketchbooks. The time spent drawing on site is a time of absorption, during which one gradually grasps the face of a city: its structure, morphology, and expression, creating as much a portrait as an urban landscape.” - Gilles Marrey

ART MEETS FASHION

We are thrilled to collaborate with Wilkes Bashford on their Sutter Street window displays. Arty Grimm’s colorful abstractions create an exquisite dialogue with their timeless fashion.

“Practicing my craft every day in or out of my studio has become second nature to me: a way of life in which there is no boredom. The rituals and routines of how I do my work are as important as the art itself. I am sustained by the years of my life poured into my work, and the body of work that speaks for itself.

The subjects I choose are familiar to me — I see them around me everyday and in my travels. In these subjects I look to contrast, balance and amplify what I see. My interest lies in the composition, transforming the world outside and making it my own, while allowing the viewer to find their own story.” - Ross Penhall

“I spent half my youth growing up in and loving the beach towns of Santa Barbara, Montecito, Huntington, and Newport Beach. The extraordinary quality of light in Southern California is another reason there’s no place I’d rather be. The peace I get from the expansive view of the ocean horizon is unparalleled. It’s my home.” - Kenton Nelson

An exceptional exhibition of paintings by Kenton Nelson, on view in Montecito through June 2.

Nelson paints heroic figures, objects, and architecture contoured by dramatic light and shadow, defined by a distinct sense of narrative idealism. Rooted in American Scene Painting and Regionalism, his work draws on the optimism of post-war film and advertising—where clarity, structure, and storytelling converge.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Nelson studied at Long Beach State University and the Otis Parsons Art Institute, where he later taught, along with the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. For over four decades, he maintained a studio in Pasadena and now lives and works in a coastal town in Southern California. His work is held in numerous private and museum collections worldwide.

“I’m interested in, among other things, that history. The history of thinking that is in the surface of all these paintings.” - John Gibson

Artist Reception Thursday, November 13th | San Francisco | 5 - 7pm

San Francisco–based artist is celebrated for his luminous, architecturally inspired paintings that unite abstraction, structure, and atmosphere. Drawing from his Indian heritage and influences such as Diebenkorn and Hopper, he transforms facades, landscapes, and boats into vibrant meditations on color, memory, and light. Layered with emotion and nuance, his work reflects a poetic harmony between observation and imagination.

Born in Pune, India, Parasnis has exhibited internationally, including museum shows at the Crocker Art Museum and Bakersfield Art Museum, and is a recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant.
