This Earth Day, we're taking the opportunity to explore the environmental values embedded in Jewish tradition (with an artful twist, of course!). In honor of the occasion, we're flashing back to our exhibition "A Menu for Recognizing Invisible Forces." Our food is deeply connected to the environment and our communities. This exhibition from Helena Keeffe and Jessica Prentice creatively explored the unseen but powerful processes that weave through our food systems, featuring art ranging from dyed tablecloths to colorful video works depicting communal meals. Its content and artworks inspire reflection on food, culture, and the cycles that connect them. Check it out below!

Keeffe and Prentice’s havruta installation—A Menu for Recognizing Invisible Forces—utilizes the case in a dynamic way, showing evidence of their experiments and explorations around all the unseen but powerful processes that weave through our food system and our community life—from traditiona...

Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, begins at sundown on April 13. This year, join the Bay Area community for an evening of remembrance honoring the six million Jewish people murdered in the Holocaust. In moments when the world feels uncertain, gathering together matters; and this year’s theme, "the courage to act," reminds us that remembering together, speaking names aloud, and standing in community can be a powerful act of resistance. Happy Women's History Month! Celebrate with us by revisiting the history of a Jewish woman who took the Wild West by storm. Josephine Earp was the common-law wife of legendary adventurer Wyatt Earp, and lived a life like few others—including playing a role at the famous O.K. Corral. Dive into her adventures amidst the booms and busts of frontier towns in this Sunday Stories from our archives.

Hello friends—we have an update to share. We've used our temporary closure as a period of recalibration, working to articulate a clear and energized vision for The Museum, and a strengthened focus on contemporary art as a lens to explore Jewish experiences.

As part of that path forward, today we are sharing the news that The CJM will be listing our building for sale. We acknowledge that this news may feel difficult and want to assure you that this was a careful decision considered by many to ensure a long-term future for The Museum. While our physical home may change, The CJM as an organization is here to stay, and we are committed to remaining a vital part of the Bay Area’s cultural landscape for generations to come. We are actively laying the groundwork for new exhibitions, partnerships, and ways to connect and look forward to sharing more with you before the end of the year. We are excited to continue on our journey toward what comes next, in partnership with you.

In honor of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's birthday earlier this week, we're spotlighting a remarkable installation now on view at Temple Emanu-El. We're thrilled to have collaborated on "The Collars of RBG": an installation of photographs by Elinor Carucci that depict Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s lace jabots and statement collars that she wore at pivotal moments of her career. These images offer a meditation on women’s expressions of individuality, centering the late Justice’s identity and her legacy of societal change. Visit Temple Emanu-El to take a look!
