Exciting things are on the horizon!

We had an extremely productive meeting with Dr. Beverly Ortiz and Greg Castro to discuss jointly creating an exhibit about the Ramaytush Ohlone Indian Tribe. The neighborhood's original inhabitants.

While nothing is officially scheduled and the finer details are still being worked out, we are absolutely thrilled to have reached a meeting of the minds. Bringing this vision to life alongside such incredible partners will be truly special.

Stay tuned as this collaboration develops—we can't wait to share more updates soon!

Huge Shoutout to a Longtime Friend!
We are sending a massive THANK YOU to Bob Reed for his incredible generosity! Bob recently designed and paid for over 70 t-shirts for our organization.
For those who don’t know, Bob has a deep history with our waterfront—he served as the former Head of Security for Bethlehem Steel’s San Francisco shipyard. Having a piece of that local legacy support our mission means the world to us. These items will go a long way in supporting our upcoming programs.

We hope to include the Rainier Brewery model, illustrated below, in our neighborhood collection. It will complement seats from Seals Stadium and a variety of other notable artifacts from this iconic area. Here is a brief history of the brewery.

While the Rainier brand is a Pacific Northwest icon, San Francisco became its primary home for decades due to an early onset of Prohibition in Washington state. In 1915, the brewery moved its headquarters to a massive brick complex at Bryant and 10th Streets—originally the Milwaukee Brewery—where it churned out its signature lager for the thirsty California market. The facility was a marvel of industrial architecture, famously crowned by a giant, neon-red "R" that served as a glowing beacon for the Mission District. Although the vats were eventually decommissioned in the mid-1950s as production shifted back north, the building remains one of the city's most recognizable industrial landmarks, now repurposed as a vibrant hub for artist studios and creative offices.

WE GOT THE KEYS!

Today, we officially unlocked the doors to our new suite at Building 12 at Pier 70.

Huge thanks from Peter and I to Tim Bacon at Brookfield Properties and the Port of San Francisco. We couldn’t have reached this milestone without their incredible support in securing this space for the Pier 70 Time Machine exhibit.

Join us on the ground floor of history.

STEP BACK INTO THE GOLDEN ERA OF 1960’s TRAVEL WITH AMERICAN PRESIDENT LINES!

Sailing the Pacific on an APL ship was the ultimate mid-century luxury experience, and we are bringing that same ambiance back to life at the Pier 70 Time Machine.

Our upcoming exhibit captures the relaxed and refined elegance of the passenger experience.

You'll see:
Art projects created from our collection of salvaged steel from the hull of the SS President Lincoln. A ship built by Bethlehem Steel and launched at Pier 70 in 1961. We documented the scrapping process by photo and video at Mare Island in 2011.

The elegant glass and brass world clock from the ship's passenger lounge.

An incredible collection of original, tabletop passenger artifacts, including APL-branded playing cards, matchbook covers, Bakelite ashtrays, drink coasters, vintage menus, travel pamphlets, price lists and a beautifully branded route map!

An up close look into the revolutionary ships from the “Searacer Class” built at Pier 70 that afforded an exclusive luxury that was unparalleled at the time.

It’s an immersive look at the "White Glove" service of the 1960s, grounded by the engineering of Bethlehem Steel that made it possible.

Stay tuned for more sneak peeks as we get closer to our grand opening!

The Lost Neighborhood of San Francisco's Working Waterfront ☘️

Take a look at our new infographic exploring the fascinating history of Irish Hill!

This is the first in a special series of sneak peeks highlighting the permanent exhibits coming to the Pier 70 Time Machine and Bethlehem Shipyard Museum when we open our doors in the coming weeks.

We are thrilled to be working jointly with Irish Hill Historian Steven Herraiz, alongside our partners at the Hill Archives Project, to bring this forgotten chapter of our city to life.

When you visit us at Building 12, you won't just be reading about history—you'll be standing right in the middle of it. Our upcoming Irish Hill installation will feature real, physical artifacts dug up directly from the hill itself. Together, we are sharing the colorful, gritty stories of the families and shipyard workers who struggled to survive on that hill on a daily basis.

Check out the infographic below, and get ready to step back in time with us!

⏳ History is being unearthed. Stay tuned to see what surfaces next.

Where Rivets Once Rang, Arias Now Soar.

Pier 70’s historic Destroyer Alley was thrilled to welcome the San Francisco Opera for an unforgettable afternoon! We experienced the magic of Puccini’s beloved La Bohème like never before—performed live on a custom-converted shipping container stage right here at Building 12.

This free, condensed one-hour performance brought world-class opera directly to our community, featuring breathtaking vocals from the incredible soprano Sofia Gotch as Musetta.

Before the main show, things kicked off with a special First Act Workshop where kids, families, and their favorite stuffed animals joined together for interactive storytelling and dancing. Thank you to everyone who came out and made this industrial opera experience so special!
